Description ...no one can hear you scream.

I love that line. I love that movie and this is a piece I never posted here, I'm not sure why. It was a sort of "for myself" illustration. A small MiniMasterpiece that i did just to get a cool, creepy atmosphere as well as that Sci-Fi feel that the Dark Millenium is all about.
Of course, Imperial Fists being my favourite Chapter was unavoidable as well as Nurgle (favourite Chaos god).

I usually tend to forget (as many oher fans, I suppose) what is great about Space Marines, having to draw so many everyday. These small pieces remind me that. The true meaning of "future super-soldier" and "they shall know no fear".

So, I hope you enjoy this one and thanks for the approval on the Eisenhorn idea. More news on that soon, I hope!

Nic.-

What I find really interesting about this piece is how it's effectively a futuristic homage to Albrecht DΓΌrer's Knight, Death and the Devil: [link]

Was this intentional?

Hey, mate!

Well, it wasn't intentional, really. I wasn't familiar with DΓΌrer's work (shame on me!), but there is a resemblance in tone to this illustration. Glad to know I was able to think like a great artist and come up with something similar...

Thanks for the information!

You're very welcome, and I might as well add that another thing that surprised me was that you chose to sum up your piece with "they shall know no fear", while the description of the DΓΌrer piece from the British Museum's website begins with "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil".

Great work, especially fitting with the title and the fact the marine seems completely obvilious to the nurgle demon behind him.

It would take a genetically modified super soldier to stare down the horrors of the galaxy and simply laugh.

That is a genetically modified super soldier or a mad man... and sometimes I think the Space Marines are a bit of both.

Heh, Imperial Fists. The First Founding Chapter that drew us together, if I don't misremember.

But, yeah, it is easy to forget what a Space Marine really IS when drawing them regularly (or painting for that matter). And once you figure that out, Chaos Marines are so much scarier. They're no longer mooks in spiky armour that attract scene-kiddies (for some contrived reason)

Having read the material that GW put out about the chaos gods in their various forms, nurgle makes a great deal of sense. He is inevitability, and offers not cure, but respite. He's the most frightening by far I find.

anyway, As always, an excellent piece! I'd love to see you do a rendition of a plague marine someday!

keep at it, as I find I'm inspired by your technique and style.

So... you like Nurgle, yes? Please, answer me this. I've always wonder... Khorne can give you power, Tzeentch - forbidden knowledge, Slaanesh - pleasure. But why anyone would go for Nurgle ;/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

NicolasRGiacondino In reply to VanRipper [2010-03-21 20:51:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, mate... I think Nurgle offers the chance to be inveitable. To surrender and thus lose fear of the things that make us mortals or even care. If you think about it, there's no mighty warrior, no fortress or world that does not succumb, one way or another, to decay and forgetfulness. Thus, death and rot is the greatest domain in the Universe. The ultimate laughing entity. Far above the other gods.

At least, that's what I think Papa Nurgle has to offer ...

Nurgle frees you from pain by making you relish it. You basically become almost impossible to kill. He's the opposite of Tzeentch. Where Tzeentch gives you knowledge to build up your power, Nurgle gives you the power to tear everything around you down.

Nurgle's for the those who are without hope and for those who despair.

Your style is unique and truly you,
Don't try to be others or you'll end up blue,
I got tired of my comments being the same,
so I wrote you a short poem to help spread your fame,
You're a great guy and cool and ever so nice,
So keep rockin' your work and bringing the spice! (of life)

Haha! Hope you liked it, man. Love your work, bro. Keep doing what what you're doing.
