Description Hello dear watchers and watcherettes...

I bring you another Dark Millenium piece yet again. This time depicting a brother of one of the most played and respected chapters of the First Founding: Space Wolves.

The wolves always seemed a bit out of place to me, fluff-wise. I couldn't understand how something so barbaric would strap on a power armour suit and go battling throughout the galaxy to enlighten (?) stray planets.
But, having drawn wolves for some time, I've actually come to respect that savage nature indeed. Mostly because it is what sets them apart from the norm, making them interesting.
What I thought a fault at first has become the reason I see these guys working within the context of Warhammer 40,000. Plus, it's always a challenge to illustrate the scars and battle damage a warrior of the Chapter endures in his lifespan of service.

As usual, you'll have the last word. I hope to hear what you think!

Nic.-

PS.. By the way, if you want to see some fine sculpts of various characters, click here: [link] It's the client's own website and I promised him some pimpin', so come by and drop him a visit! Tell him Uncle Aerion sent ya'!

aye , thy might be barbarians ... but at least you can trust barbarians , i love the wolves for theyr philosophy i guess , i mean sure they kill and drink and shout , but they are honest about it , no secrets no b.s. no politics just warriors doing what they gotta do , gotta respect that

I've come to understand from the GrimDark of the WH40K universe is that, regardless of their customs or agendas or cultures, all the Space marines Chapters and Legions believe in the same principle of protecting those unable to do so themselves.

I don't know idf you heard this but in the Space Wolf Omnibus you'll find out that the Chapter is actually harvesting a special root (can't remeber it's name) that they put in their liquer so they can get drunk.
Also when one of the Space Wolfs challenged one to a drinking contest the loser had to stop drinking ale and drink milk insted, it ended with the loser going insane.

well done Nic, you caught the viking'ish feel of the Space wolfs quite well here ^^d (my original chapter with my viking roots and everything) like the windblow feel of the drawing. gives it a great since of fierceness

It isn't often you see 40K stuff done with a heavy, stylized hand like this, and it works so well I wish you'd do it more often! WH40K is in the end kind of pulpy. Makes me wonder why the artists for it always play it so photo-realistic and dead serious - a really good high-style take on it like this is really convincing!

By a matter of principle I hate Space Wolves, they always conflict with other of my favourite factions, and especially because they took down one of the coolest space marine chapters, Thousand Sons. If you read the black library book thousand sons you'll encounter and especially despicable rune priest or whatever they are called.

Anyway, banter aside, this image is as amazing as can expected from you, which is a lot. Love it

Just awesome. Everything you need to know about this chapter can be taken in at a glance from this guy. They are hard, hairy, noble barbarian space-viking-knights. For The Emperor!

Frankly, the reason I love the Space Wolves is simply because they are... no better word for it... Technovikings. It illustrates how flipping bad the Warhammer 40k world is, in which the barbarians are the most humane and noble people in the galaxy. They also serve to paint a brilliant illustration of what true nobility is. Other space marine chapters have this air of imperial nobility and grace, yet they are really indifferent about everything. They don't protect the galaxy because it is the right thing to do. They do it because they are told to. Space Wolves, it is different. The harsh world they have grown up in has made them appreciate their strength. Just because other people don't spend their whole lives fighting doesn't mean they don't count. To them, the purpose of strength is to help and protect those who don't have it. It is the perfect irony... the most superstitious, barbaric and 'beastly' group of space marines are the most noble and humane. Their world is all about "life is hard and everyone's got to help each other out". So yes, they seem out of place... because they are one of the few space marines that actually inspire hope and courage rather than fear and submission.

Very cool! Even though I don't like the Wolves (barbaric and brutish), they're still fine warriors. If I were a Space Marine, though, I'd choose the Thousand Sons, pre-Heresy that is.

Again, great work!
