I never thought I'd be so tired, fellow watchers and watcherettes... but I'm truly drained and exhausted beyonf words. Hopefully though, this image will be worth my investment in it.
This is a long overdue commission for a group of fine folks over at [link] . These fellows asked me if I could do an oversized image of their Deathwatch Squad, the Vigilia Mortis, whilst taking their vows of duty and devotion to the Emperor of Mankind.
To be honest, I hesitated at first, but I can't really refuse a challenge so I went for it and here's the result.
This illustration was rendered in A3 paper, with my usual markers and a bit of acrylic and whatnot here and there for effects and glows. This took me about five days, on and off in between my other deadlines (FREE MARS, for example!). There's 10 characters, all told; many Chapters and many facial features, special weapons/clothing and honours. The Inquisitor overseeing the ceremony was a plus for me, as I love the Inquisition!
There's a lot of details I'm proud of, but numbering them all would be quite tiring and I've already spent too long with these battle brothers.
I sincerely hope you enjoy this one; for all of those worried about my not illustrating the Dark Millenium since my last Journal, you'll be happy to see that's not quite the case. And I've got even more lined-up down the road.

Simplemente, tu arte de los comic , es IMPONENTE, si refleja demasiado el espΓritu estoico y badass de esta franquicia , amo esa forma de complejidad de los contornos y curvas, ese bello color metalizado que crea la atmosfera oscura pero igual deslumbra lo colorido que representa cada legion o capitulo, deseo que hagas algunos dibujos de Eldars y Imperio Tau, hacen falta mas de esas razas con tu bello estilo, que tanto te gusta el estilo art deco de hacerlo acuadrados y el color metalizados , quiero ver como queda el resultado conΒ las armaduras apocalipsis de sus mejores comandantes, salu2 y sigue asi, ansio dibujar como tu compa, inspiras mucho, tu arte si se nota que eres bien fan de Mignola, Bruce timm y el genial Genndy tartakosky, tienes otro artistas que tienes de inspiraciΓ³n?

Well this is simply awesome! Seriously staggering level of detail, ranging from individual purity seals and the background stars, to individual special equipment and various armour models. Incredibly cool stuff!

It was quite a painful illustration to render because I had to pay very close attention to all of those details you mention, mate. These were actually players' characters, so I wanted to take them as seriously as they did and pay them proper respect.

What sort of A3 material did you use? I'm trying to find some that can take a real beating!

Well, usually here at my local art store there's really thick illustration paper that can take watercolors and other wet paint really well. It all depends on how thick the paper is really, but also bear in mind that the thicker it is, the easier it may be to lift up layers of it with paint so... Whatever you feel works best for you would be my advice, but always try to go for a medium thickness.

I have to admit I am thoroughly satisfied to see an artist using traditional media, especially markers which is quite a hard thing to master. I have always wondered how artists such as yourself find the right brand of markers that blend so flawlessly. I can't even express in words how truly outstanding the artistic effort to create this must have been. Even though after eighteen years drawing I am only an ameteur it's people like you, who when I see images such as these, make me pick up the pen and keep on drawing when people put me down. Well done man, this is truly an incredible piece of art worthy of hanging on a wall.

Heh, I find it humorous that a Smurf and at least one chapter off-shoot of the Imperial Fists are in the same room together and they are being completely professional about the whole ordeal. If you guys know the fluff, you'd get the funny.

I know pretty much of the fluff, but if you refer to the second founding and the fact that Rogal Dorn opposed it at first...we'll he agreed in the end, so none of the successors will have problems about that fact, it was their Primarchs drecree at last.
