In case you're wondering, UP 844 was built on Dec 25, 1944, which would make her 75 years old now. Quite impressive for a steam engine that's never been retired.

From what I heard in this documentary I watched, 844 participated in snow-melting experiments in Iowa with a 4-6-6-4 Challenger locomotive and UP somehow neglected to retire her before starting to use her to pull public relations trains on the UP system.
