It really is a shame the comics got rebooted and they cancelled the original Archie comics. With SEGA forcing them to stick closer to the game canon in the new IDW comics, I guess characters like Uncle Chuck, Sally Acorn and the Freedom Fighters are pretty much dead now, aren't they? I personally don't see any chance of them returning in the new comics... so RIP...

It's already been making some kind of progress.
If they are starting to get less close minded and vague with the franchise and these characters now then I'd say Yeah it can.

Looks nice, then again Uncle Chuck is pretty hard to screw up.
Also they're not dead, they may be in on the shelf for now but they're not dead, They actually said last month that they are open to using the SATAM cast next year.
But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't give up on keeping them in the spotlight.

I think it's because both SEGA and a bunch of fans got so sick and tired of the Freedom Fighters and how Archie used to force Sonally in everyone's faces that they wanted to start completely fresh. I think it might be a good thing to be honest, even if what few good Archie and SatAM characters won't appear again. Might encourage the American fans that they don't need SatAM to make a good American Sonic story. I hope the IDW comics can eventually encourage SEGA to bring Modern Sonic back into the right direction for storytelling instead of succumbing to the people who keep complaining about the games thoughtlessly. Besides, I don't think we need SatAM to make a good Sonic story. And I'm not the only one who thinks this way. But I think my friend can help explain that reason better than I can. Hope that if you meet her, you can be on good terms with her.

Well Flynn did say that he has plans to continue the series that's still on the shelf and IDW has a reputation of continuing comics.
So it's not a helpless situation.

There's a rumor that the Freedom Fighters may be part of IDW Sonic in at least the start of 2019, the door isn't closed on them as of yet.
