The Big Boy is the largest articulated steam engine ever to grace the prairies, although heavy the Big Boy could go 80 MPH without hauling anything. Some might speculate that the Alleghany is the heaviest, although some facts are not what they seem. Nothing like Big Boy has ever been seen, only 8 remains in existance.

Boris, this is such a great image I think that I could convert it to a black and white linear image that would emphasize the station more.  With your permission I would like to try this and then make prints of it to offer for sale.  I would also like to play with this image, trying to show a full steam plume billowing from it's stack.  I would work in a more painterly manner than this cgi.  I would give you credit for your work and reference your image, of course.  Please say I can.  What are your thoughts on my idea?

Hurrah! for the mighty engine,
As he bounds along his track:
Hurrah, for the life that is in him,
And his breath so thick and black.

Here is a nice clip taken of when 4014 was stopped at Las Vegas on her return trip home to Cheyenne, WY to UP's shops so the rebuild can begin: www.youtube.com/watch?v=b71t-n…

The music playing during this clip, combined with the images brought tears to my eyes. ^^

Hehe, love this thought, a Big Boy sitting in Old Penn Station!  Thank you!

Where did you get this particular photo of Penn Station? I haven't been able to find it anywhere

RNDmodelshop In reply to Bystander4 [2014-06-26 04:08:25 +0000 UTC]

We're working on a HO model based on the Penn Station plans. The tracks and platforms were yet another level below this which would be the main concourse pedestrian level, so this is just a CGI rendering based on the architecture!

Unbelievable! That's the best 3-D-model of the 4-8-8-4 I've ever seen! Wonderful weathering! With all this glass stuff it looks like jumping out of steampunk or 1900's world exhibition.
I'm going to model a UP-class 4000 too, but I bang my head. No chance without detailed faksimile plans...
Do you use some UP-or ALCo-plans?

This is the locomotive that changed railroading forever. It's articulated, but not a Mallet.

It is the Last of the Giants.

Have stared at this amazing picture for hours. As best as I can figure, the background is much like the old Penn Station in NYC that was demolished in 1963, but I have not been able to find another one with the same details; I am guessing that it was black and white and that the tinting was your addition.

Hi,
My brother and I are huge train photography fans too. Could you vote on a Union Pacific Commerical Remake? It only takes a moment of your time and would really be helpful. He is using some of his favorite photographs that work for the commercial. Here is the website to vote: [link]
Thank you so much!
