I've never heard of a BLACK squirrel before! This is the first time I've seen one, even in photo's (then again, I've only seen them in photo's because we don't have squirrels here

Yes, you can get them. Though, I've never actually seen one of that colouring before. I've only ever seen red ones and many a grey one near where I live.Β

I wonder if red ones derived from black ones at some point. I do know that with cats the red or "ginger" colour variation was a mutation from a black cat (so I heard anyway). Same with with goldfish apparently too - seems orange stems from black quite often

They're fairly common here in Ontario - I believe they are a colour morph of the grey ones.
