The zoom of the staff is quite cool or awesome. A simple backgroud to emphasize the form and details of Jack is smart and has a clean or polished touch. Jack looks a bit afraid but willing to fight his fears and protect those that are important to him, those that he loves. He won't stop fighting for the children of the world and for his fellow Guardians. He'll always be a Guardian.

It's probably a safe bet Dreamworks used his facial expressions for Jack too. animators do that a lot. film the va's saying their lines and use it as facial referecnes.
