Vartok is a shape shifting spirit that 'protects' the arctic circle. He can be occasionally found in Inuit and Norse legends, but not being strongly aligned with any god on any side, he rarely plays a major role. His mission statement, originally was to keep the peace in the extreme northern regions, but now has taken a darker turn. Frustrated with climate change and the disasters it has brought particularly in the north, he has started to marshal a small force to produce counter efforts against the human's rat race. His force is not particularly great in the grand scheme of things, but has frustrated some. Vartok and his apostles will often attack oil rigs, sink commercial ships and collapse gold mines.

Originally a benevolent spirit, he will assist Inuit and Norse tribes when they are in need. Sometimes protecting or warning them of natural disasters, sometimes providing food and other resources when these groups of people run low. Recently due to the collapsing of the permafrost that most northern homes reside upon, he has secretly been reinforcing the ice when he can. His ice breath can freeze at above 0 temperatures, which can provide a delay before those homes collapse. But make no mistake, he is more and more infuriated with the results of climate change and actively seek to destroy those who pollute the north without second thought.

His breath abilities is something of a chemical mystery to researchers. Besides the fact that it will stay frozen at above zero temperatures (researchers have started seeing melting at 279 Kelvin), but it also contains electric properties. There should be no electric current/electron movement through solids with a crystal lattice structure such as ice, but despite that his breath abilities sometimes still seems at least partly electric. For example, when electric wires come in contact with his breath they have been known to freeze, snap, and alight.

As a shape shifting spirit he theoretically has the ability to take countless forms. However, there are a few that he is quite fond of and will default to at times. Vokter's 'original' form is that of a feathered dragon with an equine back and a long feathered tail. One of his faults is that he is quite fond of gold and gold jewelry and will always be found sporting a gold nose rings with a few additional rings on his long tail. Sometimes he will keep some of the gold he finds when they raid mines. He will sometimes turn into a bird (albeit with a feathered tail, and gold nose ring) when scouting ahead, and he will sometimes turn into a winged horse (still, with a feathered tail and gold nose ring) when he feeds and runs with elk and caribou herds. There is rumor of a human form, that he uses when interacting benevolently with humans. However, those tribes that he helps may have been warned, because they never confirm his existence to researchers.

Despite having many carnivorous/omnivorous forms, the large dragon's diet is highly vegetarian. While he does not begrudge his apostles the chance to dine on fresh meat (many of them being carnivores/omnivores) he himself usually eats mushrooms and greens. It is even common for him to dig up and eat the roots of some grasses such as alfafa and clovers. (It isn't lost on researchers, that these are plants who perform nitrogen fixation and therefore have high contents of nitrogen in their roots. Perhaps this is why his breath freezes at above 0 temperatures, it maybe have mixtures of nitrogen)

He and his apostles have made their home in the valley of two large ice mountains. It is difficult to realize it even exists till you're right in it. It's made out of caves with reinforced ice, and a maze of interconnecting pathways. Its first defense is that it is too north for most people to even realize it exists. Secondly, it is difficult to find because of the surrounding mountains. And lastly, even if there was an avalanche, most of the walls are well enough reinforced that many paths from cave to cave would still exist. Meaning it would not be difficult for the beings living there to tunnel out. This, and a strong force of followers makes Vokter's home base, and cause, hard to find and beat.

His pack of followers are currently mostly tokotas, with maybe a dracostryx or two that can bear the cold weather. The dire and akota builds are more common (considering how north it is) as well as longer fur coats and longer fangs. (Fang and tusk physical traits are common here) Genetically, it is common to have darker tokotas (browns and blacks) covered up by white markings, such as piebald, dapple, vitiligo, roan and seal, for camouflage. Tokos tend to look kind of 'spotty', with 'stripy' markings such as dun, wolverine, rainmarks etc much rarer. Currently, his apostles include: Wyanetta 29846
I will ultimately be shopping for 1 maybe 2 more tokos that fit the above descriptions, as well as spw for their physical traits. I have his 'right hand man'(dire) ready i just need more spw to have him come to life.

i used a stock for the bg because i wanted to give him like a 'been around for awhile' kind of feel. This way, it looks like the original researcher who compiled this dossier was like in the 1800s haha. my fingers are about to fall off
