"Hydrae" acrylic on paper, 8x10" This, along with the 'Cult of Mordiggian' painting served as illustrations for a Lovecraftian music score by Jim Gruetzmacher. This piece was for the table of contents, hence the large blank area in the middle.Related content

Thanks! I've noticed that images which look fine on my computer might look dark or washed out on others', so though it is a very dark piece you might be seeing it extra dark.
I'm surprised we haven't crossed paths here on DA before, I had no idea you've had an account for 5 years!

Yes, it is underwater. The concept is based on the aquatic life forms called hydra ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_%2… ).

(the painting is most certainly Lovecraftian in nature, though these hydrae are more like the actual ocean sort, not so much a female Dagon or deep one)

Thanks! I feel like good/evil is pretty subjective with monsters depending on your perspective, so I appreciate that you see the peaceful nature in them. I wouldn't touch them either without greater understanding of them, much like any wild creature.

I wasn't able to get to the show myself- but I think I saw the piece you mention in the program for the HPL Film Festival from the beginning of the month. Am I thinking of the right thing?

I've been in that show twice but just haven't had the means to make it out the the west coast at those times. Do you know of any closeby? You'd think there's be something in New England..

Lovecraft country is pretty quiet, unfortunately. Perhaps ten years back there was the last 'Necronomicon', and I haven't been aware of much else since.

It took just under a year with a team of two (and a very lazy summer). A third person joined us near the end as well.
Right now we're working on The Temple, which is about 10x as ambitious and is going to take most of forever.
I want to try to get to some of those other Lovecraft events so I can see how they're done. It'd be interesting to organize one, you know, in the area you'd expect them to be.

While strangely grotesque, you manage to give it a depth of realism that most artists could only hint at.
Excellently done, perfectly executed. Honestly, there was enough to move your eyes around the page, I didn't notice the blank spot until you said something.
