Personality (basic): serious, dedicated, efficient, adaptable, calm, placid, blunt, organized, calculated, loyal

Personality (detailed): Sonar was never a very expressive bot. She's always focused on her work and her job, to the point of becoming distant to many around her. To her, this fact only makes her better at her job since there are fewer distractions around her to take her off task. When she does make friends, their respect for her overall dedication and efficient mindset benefit their relationships and make them more fulfilling despite having fewer.

Even though Sonar distances herself from others, she is very loyal to not just those who can maintain an interpersonal relationship with her, but to her cause. Her calculated and serious approach to the Decepticon cause makes her a rather invaluable asset to the reconnaissance side of the war. She is adaptable in all kinds of sticky situations and knows her limits. Rarely does this officer lose her cool or overreact to aggravating issues when presented. Many compare her to Soundwave in her level of emotional masking, but unlike Soundwave who chooses to hide his face and voice, Sonar has always been the calm and serious femme she is today. It's just been enhanced by the war.

Fears: minor claustrophobia; cortical psyche patch/mnemosurgery (essentially anyone entering/altering her mind)

Weaknesses: difficult to communicate with anyone who doesn't understand Cybertronian sign language or morse code; not a good physical fighter

Habits: blocking out sounds/people around her

Soft Spot: sparklings

Hobbies: making music

Bio: Sonar was constructed near the end of the Golden Age in Iacon when the political uprising was beginning to take shape. She never involved herself in the chaos though, observing the ideas and actions of either side from the shadows. From the beginning, she had a feeling that one day she would officially need to pick a side, but before then she wanted to learn as much as she could about both rising factions before making a decision.

Once war broke out on Cybertron, Sonar was a neutral for several decades. She resided underground by herself, for the most part, occasionally assisting other neutrals in their own endeavours. From there, she continued her own surveillance on the many battles and strategic moves of both Autobot and Decepticon to make an educated decision. After contemplating her own ideology for some time, Sonar chose to align herself with the Decepticons. She entered herself with the most recent batch of cadets/recruits and took oath not a few years later.

She was first assigned under Starscream's command as his new infiltration officer. Sonar was only under his command for a short time, but if you were to ask her what she thought of the SIC, she'd only have good things to say. This was early enough in the war where Starscream was still eager to please Lord Megatron and loyal to friends and family. Sonar knows he's a cunning seeker with exceptional strategic planning. Any mission she was sent on was beneficial to his overall goal and was never menial.

After Starscream, Sonar was off on her own for many vorns on "active intelligence", which is being constantly in the field and reporting back to Decepticon HQ whenever needed. They would send her assignments or tasks or things they needed to know, and she would find/complete them. This was one of the main reasons Sonar grew to dislike partner missions. After working alone for so long (and being really damn good at it), her social skills were subpar at best.

She probably would have been on "active intelligence" for the foreseeable future if she never had her accident. During a stakeout of an Autobot base located just outside Iacon, other Decepticons had staged an ambush on the same target she had been scouting. She needed information from that bot though, so she couldn't let them kill him. Sonar deemed intervening the most reasonable thing to do, but her whole job revolved around staying hidden and invisible. So she tried to help the Autobot escape through whispers and subtle visual cues. This would have also worked perfectly if she hadn't made her first and only mistake on a job. Sonar was too focused on making sure the bot survived to be completely aware of her own shadowy surroundings.

One of the Decepticons had caught on with what she was doing and managed to track her. He attacked her from behind by stabbing her through the throat so she could no longer help the Autobot. The cons had no intention of killing her though and instead arrested her for treason, bringing her back to HQ with them. To her own satisfaction, the Decepticons responsible got heavily reprimanded for stabbing a deep undercover operative who had been providing the cause with information for vorns and rendering her unable to work.

On the downside, her voice box was beyond repair now and needed to be replaced. But one's voice is not easily calibrated nor repaired. So her options were to either adjust to a new voice, speak in code (like Bumblebee), or not speak at all. She chose to not speak at all and instead dedicated herself to learning Cybertronian sign language. Sonar also had a visor installed that could flash in Cybertronian code (patterns very similar to Bumblebee's beeping) as another form of communication.

After that incident, she was to focus on adjusting to her new condition and assigned a stationary post under the command of Thunderbolt, a more recent addition to the Decepticon cause. She didn't like her new commander at first since she was constantly pairing her with others in team assignments. Afterall, Sonar felt that she worked better by herself. But over time, these assignments allowed her to grow more accustomed to interacting with others again and improving her communication. She was considered Thunderbolt's right-hand bot for a good 80% of the time she spent serving under her, and she was one of many who were shocked by Thunderbolt's seeming demise.

Many of the cons formerly serving under Thunderbolt were then distributed/transferred over to other commanders or sent off-world. Sonar was sent to work in Central Kaon and gather information for the central command. This included cons such as Starscream and Overlord, who would assign her missions upon missions, keeping her busy. Despite receiving her missions from such higher-ups, she rarely ever saw them, much less reported to them. Instead, Megatron had her report to Soundwave, who was in charge of the databases and information centre, to then relay her information to the other higher-ups.

When she wasn't in the field, she worked with Soundwave in logging other reports and encrypting/decrypting documents. Her work gathering information from secluded sources meant that she acquired skills in hacking and decryptions. That and the many different languages she could understand made work for Soundwave easier, and he appreciated the assistance. The thing she likes the most about Soundwave though is the fact they never need to speak to communicate with one another. It's always a nice quiet, never an awkward quiet like how it normally is with someone else in the room. With just the two of them, the silence is normal and relaxing.

Sonar's admiration for the other silent mech has always been a one-way thing, she knows that. Which is why she never voiced any feelings she developed by working with him, metaphorically speaking. She hated distractions, and a relationship was just another distraction. Even though she knows under the silence and the mask, Soundwave has feelings like any other bot, she could never imagine him accepting a courtship from her. Thus she remained silent about the matter.

She continued to work in Central Kaon until Cybertron's abandonment. Once the war moved completely off-world, Sonar moved to Kronos with a sub-division of Decepticons trying to take over large areas of the planet. Kronos is a planet with a surface comprised of several layers of metal (similar to that of Cybertron) and an earthy world underneath. It's inhabited by organic lifeforms underneath the surface, especially since the Cybertronian war forced them to seek refuge.

Sonar was once again forced to partake in partner missions by their division leader and found two teammates by Nightshade and Firestarter. Nightshade is respectable, and she appreciates the time and effort she put into her work as a fellow intelligence and infiltration officer. Firestarter, on the other hand, was forced upon her. He's loud, cocky, brash, and just a giant sign screaming "shoot me". And many times has she been tempted to. But one thing she does give him is his impeccable charisma.

Firestarter can make anyone like him if he tries hard enough. To him, Sonar is the ultimate challenge. Getting past her placid exterior and interior is his goal, and though she hates to admit it, he is slowly weaseling his way in there.
