Thank you for the lovely compliment! I plan to, but it'll probably have to wait until I finish my exams later this week.

Thank you for the kind words, as ever, Maelstrom. (MLP spoilers) The actual idea for the night sky was as a homage to the sister's parents, who are referenced as two comets going past in the show - they are implied to be dead. This accounts for Applejack's sadness also.

Ah, so it is an actual family grouping, only the parents are hard to see. I'm not worried, for we know they are watching their children, from wherever good ponies go when they die.
We in Korea have the tradition of Jaesa, an ancestor worship ritual where we gather the freshest, most valuable ingredients we can find, cook them in a clean and sanctified way, serve them up on a big table, burn incense and invite our predeceased parents and grandparents over for dinner. We dig spoons and chopsticks into the food in a specific way reserved for this ceremony, wait a bit (so they can 'eat'), pay our homage, and eat the food (share the table).
Perhaps Applejack can do something similar. Cook up some of her parents' favorite food, look to the heavens, and offer them the dish. It's a tad too oriental for Equestria, but I think it would be nice.

That sounds like a really interesting tradition, I confess I really don't know a whole lot about Korean culture. As regards oriental influences in MLP that sounds like a really interesting idea! After all Discord's dragon body parts are Chinese dragon style and I believe there is a pony in the spa who looks oriental by descent. I'd love to see them further explore eastern mythology/culture as much as they have referenced western. At the end of the day Equestria is its own place so it needn't be constrained to western ideas.

That's what's so wonderful about Equestria, I think; that all those disparate parts come together into one single harmony.
