The sands were still warm from the heat of the day, despite night truly being here. Senka looked down as Gabriel cuddled against her and laid her smaller tail over hers. The lighter furred cub smiled softly as she felt a rush of warmth and love for her friend. Gabriel was one of the few who could distract her from her feelings but with her asleep and Shiva a distance away, Senka was alone.

Alone.

A wary sigh escaped Senka as she gazed up at the dark sky above, the stars seeming farther away than usual. Was Lightening looking at the same stars? Or were they as different as this land was for her? The young cub sniffled as she stared at the stars, would she ever see the kindly car again? Would she ever race with other wolves while the roar of the crowd was all around her? Senka dropped her head as the wave of homesickness nearly choked her. A few tears running down her muzzle.

She loved Shiva, she loved Gabriel and all the others but...she missed home.

It had been nearly a year since she came to this world. Was Lightening looking for her or did he give up? She had no way of knowing. All she knew is that despite her friends here and her love, she wanted to go home. The scars from her first battle still ached and Senka whimpered. Shiva and Gabriel must have sense her pain and distress because the puppy curled tighter around her and Shiva was soon laid down beside her.

Surrounded by her new family, Senka buried her head in Shiva's chest while thinking of Lightening and home. As she closed her eyes to sleep, she thought she could hear her dear friend's engine purring in her ears.

Well, this was a brain-wreaker to do. I wasn't intending on drawing a beach for this piece, I wasn't intending on drawing a background period. But after finishing up with drawing Senka and Gabriel, my mind thought that it was missing something and bam! beach background. Now, I have only drawn a beach setting once before, years ago and I rarely draw night scenes before I suck at drawing the correct color palette for them, but I wanted to do it and tried for a comprise. The sky and water is dark but the rest is brighter to make it more visually appealing. I like how it came out though adding the details for the wet sand and foam of the water was something i didn't do last time. I think it makes it look better.

I hope you like it and the short story, Shadow!!
