Description 3D model and texture is property of (Another great 3D artist. ) Rig and animation is my work.

See the original too: kp-shadowsquirrel.deviantart.c… Higher quality Xvid video, if you need it, you can download from here drive.google.com/file/d/0B83sn…

So I decided to practice some rigging and animation all of a sudden... It took one day to rig properly enough, one day to animate smooth enough and + 12 hours to render. A true speedrun from my part.

There's quite a few errors in there and it could have used a lot more work but I hope it's good enough. I didn't want to make this such a long project so I decided to stop it short. Surprisingly the tail was the hardest part to animate... And that shows...

Anyway I know it has errors but critique is still much appreciated. (From the rig and animation side that is. For the model, see the original.)

Rig, animation, render in blender 2.5 (animation in render branch. About 1 minute and 30 seconds per frame)

EDIT: Frigging weird ass cappuccino moments ago in a cup I just spilled out to my keyboard and screen says hi at the place where the views usually are... Says exactly 2,500 views... Oh wow...

can i ask what program did you use for the rig and animation, i alwayz use 3ds max do you think i could do such an animation

Niko40 In reply to XHatsuneUchiha-RukiX [2015-11-12 00:47:07 +0000 UTC]

Ah. Sorry for not replying yet. Been really slow here lately. : P
I used Blender for rendering and animation.
For sure you can use 3ds max for this kind of work. But I think Blender is a bit more easy on smooth deformations.

Any recommendations on where to begin? I'm currently messing with DAZ 3D, then there's also Poser, Google SketchUp and Blender 3D, oh and Source Filmmaker, neither of which I'm familiar with. Which of those is the most "noob-friendly"?

Niko40 In reply to nintendo1889m [2014-07-14 19:11:37 +0000 UTC]

DAZ 3D and poser are limited in what you can do with them. They're not really modelling tools, they're tools to make people scenes easily. Focus is on people creation and posing.
Google sketchUp is a pretty good tool. It makes scene building easy with pre-made objects, although I think you can model in it too some. Focus is on scene creation.
Source filmmaker is a "game tool" as in, it uses models and scenes made in other editors and it uses game mechanics for animations. Focus is to build animations easily.

Blender is what I recommend though. It's the hardest but it's focus is pretty much "all-in-one". You can do everything in it. There are no pre-made models in it and there are no easy setups for posing, instead you have to build everything yourself from the ground up. But you will need something like Blender in order to create assets for all those other programs and it's a good thing to know how to do it. So I highly recommend learning more about it if not about the program itself. Another good thing about blender is that whatever you create in blender, works in blender. If you need to export your model to DAZ3D for example, you'll need to convert it to a format that DAZ can understand. Also as DAZ and blender are really different, some of the tools in blender like harmonic coordinates will not export to DAZ. So an animation with a really fat guy will not look as good as what you can create it to be in blender. This short video will tell you what I'm talking about. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWlVT5…

If you want to learn blender, you can easily download it from www.blender.org
After that I found these tutorials to be the best ones around. I recommend watching all 7 of them before you decide on which application you will want to learn more about.

Coincidentally, a friend of mine is working on rigging the same model in Blender, but I'll be working the animations, I just feel too bloody inadequate to work with Blender, considering my lack of skill. I only chose DAZ because it. I don't want to get into making 3D models yet, I don't have the patience as I would rather start with premade models for now. The bones and weighting them, not a problem, but making 3D models from scratch, I...don't know, I don't even have the skills to make those, much less the patience. Sorry, I've just been a bit negative today, my apologies.

I did the rig and animation with Blender 2.5. Newest version of blender today is 2.71
<- Did the actual model with ZBrush and Maya.

Okay. Fixed the link on the description to google drive this time. Should work now. drive.google.com/file/d/0B83sn… (seek for the download icon on the page ).
There's no download for the actual 3D model. If you want to fiddle with the rig yourself I can send you a download link in private message. You'll need to know a bit of Blender to be able to control the character. www.blender.org/

This is pretty awesome! How did you get the fur on the shoulders to sway with the walk? Are they dynamic or do they just have controls? And which program did you use to rig and animate?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Niko40 In reply to RedPandaRigging [2014-04-19 02:18:07 +0000 UTC]

Hello. Thank you. The shoulder fur patches have just simple bones in them. It's all manual as it was more quick than trying to set up any kind of dynamic. Also making dynamic loop is a hassle. I'm using Blender for all of my 3D works. It's pretty awesome app especially for rigging.

Hey, me again! I'm into a bit of trouble

I'v downloaded this model, i'v unzipped it, but i won't get the "materials" and "model" folder, i'll only have creepy plate skin of this 3D model, into JPEG. Opening it will show me the entire skin and eyes, but... completely spread in flat. And a second picture showinf the 3D stuff under the color of here skin.

I'm not quit experienced with theses kind of stuff, but if i follow the instructions from this guys here, www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni6-lr…

at 0:53 he will receive the models and materials folders. I'm even using the same programme  than him to unzip this RAR folder. Can you please help me out?

Where exactly did you download the model from? I offer this model with the rig for blender only, for those who ask.

MrTommaya In reply to Niko40 [2014-01-11 00:18:25 +0000 UTC]

I think i'v found ; I'm not using blender, but SFM, and i guess that SFM simply doesn't work wit the "same kind" of RIG than blender. Too bad for me.

Well, no problem. I already have plenty to do with the characters from TF2 on SFM. Thanks anyway

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Niko40 In reply to MrTommaya [2014-01-11 16:43:13 +0000 UTC]

Ah... Right. I was kinda thinking if there were a sfm ready models anywhere. Ya, that's just a model in lightwave .obj format. A common format and kinda simple. That format can't have any kind of rig data inside it. The rig I made only works with blender. Although a more basic rig I could export from blender to quite a few formats. But that would require making another rig to work with sfm... Because technology would just be too easy if everything just fit together... : P
Sure it can be done though... Just requires some work. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOQ9a5…

In fact, i do have found an rigged Version of an Renamon model.

 www.facepunch.com/threads/1021…

and it works on SFM, i'v tryed! I was so happy.

Then i realised that it doesn't have poseable eyes.

Not like the one you animated here,

or this one lycanarius.deviantart.com/art/…

that is not avalaible for free distribution as long as parts of it's RIG belong to other people. Look the comments ^^"

At last i'v tryed,  and i DO have an quit decent rigged model of Renamon. Too bad for the eyes

Any idea? Sorry for the trouble...
