The Nutcracker is easily one of my favorite Christmas fantasies! Not sure if it's my top favorite, but it's pretty darn close.
Personally I like rats and mice, I think they're cute and they can be wonderful pets if raised properly, but I have to admit they can also make great villains.
Hah, you think this Rat King is horrifying, you should see an irl Rat King!! Truly morbid, if you ask me, and it kind of explains why the Nutcracker's Rat King has seven heads!

But is The entire Nutcracker story bout The Nutcracker himself or the girl?

Why is the Mouse king always depicted as having more than one head?

The legendary version of a Rat King was actually a bundle of rats so covered in grunge and rot that their tails became inextricabley tied together and forced them to move and feed as one. The version Hoffmann ended up with was modified and simplified from years of telling.

Gotta ask the author of the story, E. T. A. Hoffmann, because that's the source material !

It's actually disturbing about the mouse king with multiple heads

The Mouse King does canonically have seven heads (I would have preferred drawing just one for sure)!

Hm, I actually hadn't heard that. I guess even the old stories can still surprise you.

Seven heads was the brief I received from my client, and Wikipedia seems to support that direction ! (I only know of the story, I haven't read it myself.)

Interesting. I think this requires reading the original tale.
