Well, it's kinda weird, because their out-of-battle sprites look a lot younger than their in-battle sprites, the same goes for most other characters, although that's probably because they look chibi-fied outside of battle.

Seriously, drawing is about expressing. if someone likes to draw something physically impossible, then ok. Not everything must be realistic. Not everything must have a rational explanation.
