I've been following Farya Faraji on youtube for a while now. His historically inspired music always delivers and his latest piece on Tornike Eristavi inspired me to create this illustration. Hope everyone likes it.

Now about Tornike Eristavi: He was known as Tornikios to the Byzantines. He was a Georgian general or "Eristavi" (Georgian for "Head of the Nation"). After a successful military career he withdrew to the Holy Mount Athos in Greece, where he became a monk. However he was eventually recalled from his retirement by the Byzantine Palace, who wanted him to aid Bardas Phokas in crushing the Rebellion of Bardas Skleros. Having renounced his former life of violence, Tornike only reluctantly agreed under pressure from his fellow monks who wanted to gain the good will of the Emperor. After his quest succeeded, he returned to Athos and with the funds of his reward for his services, he founded the Monastery of Iviron ("of the Georgians") which still exists to this day.
