This could have turned out exactly the wrong way. Balanced Budget could have been needlessly intimidated by the original Elements of Harmony, who, in the name of Friendship, would have overprotected Rose Petal as they monitored the "progress" of the relationship. BB would have further freaked out once he learned that RP was also an EoH, and his own "lowly" position may have driven him to abandon his efforts to pursue a relationship with one of the saviors of Equestria.
I mean, right here, the presence of Rook has just destroyed whatever confidence and self-esteem he had.
"Me? Interested? Oh, no, SIR, I was merely curious about who was the ma--PONY working in the garden! I assure you, I had no hidden or devious or harmful intent whatsoever, not with any of our Champions of Equestria! I'm sorry to have bothered you, SIR, I know all of you are busy with the Reconstruction, so I'll make myself useful and not waste anypony's time anymore! And he'd high-tail it to the next town.
