From what I've seen after looking through all of your comic Spumoni (I will never remember the spelling of that name) is a really interesting character. I love her personality because of just how much comedy it makes.

I do that too, but I really need to do it more. Ergo, draw stuff, wait a few months, then go back and look at it and relive the hilarity. I'm trying to save up for a tablet, which should make the drawing a little easier.
Question: I used to plan to vector my sketches in AI because I thought that would be easier. Do you think it would be easier and less time-consuming to just draw them in tablet/PS, and then color them there?

Use a tablet with AI. Normally when I do vectors, I use the mouse and the pen tool, but if I'm inking a drawing, it's faster and looks great using the pen tool and tablet in AI. The Wacom Bamboo is good and it's under $100.

So you can use an art tablet with AI? Do you vector with the physical pen? Is inking just another word for coloring in AI/PS? Is this easier than drawing IRL? How are you and your family doing?

When I say "inking", I'm talking about the process of drawing on paper, scanning it to the computer, and then outlining it with nice, clean, black lines. That's what AI is really good at beside just regular vectors. I usually do coloring in photoshop unless I'm building full vector artwork in which case I use the pen tool (in AI) with the mouse; no tablet.

So, you can essentially outline with nice black lines on AI (w/ a tablet), then color it in photoshop (w/ a tablet), if you want a drawing. Is this possible?

That's what I did when I was doing superhero comics. And my most recent human Willow drawing was done that way (though not colored)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, what would be the best way to go about making art to put on DA? Drawing on PS/tablet? AI? I just want to know the best path before I get started...

It depends what you're trying to do. Straight vector art is better if you want to reuse parts, but inking with illustrator then doing coloring and shading in PS is faster for one-off stuff. I guess the question is what you want to do.

Reuse parts? Like copy a vector from one comic into another? I don't think I'm wanting to do that. I want to just draw several unrelated pictures, as well as draw several unrelated 1-strip comics. I also want to get these ideas out of my head and on to paper as quick as possible. From this information, would you suggest inking and coloring?

If you look at my original comics, they're done with vectors which let me use the same "model" again (I just had to move and adjust some parts). For example, I don't really need to draw as much anymore since I can reuse a lot of the pieces and just bend and stretch them.
My tumblr art is just drawn period, no lineart. I wanted to start that because it CAN be faster, though it will be much rougher. However, it's much better art and drawing practice (which vector art is not).

Love this. It's a great example of characterization. Not lecturing on how a character would act, or worse yet, never really mentioning it, or their personality, but having the character in question react and respond appropriately.. It's... so simple, but so hilariously appropriate...
