The blank shoes themselves? I used a pair of knock off vans that ended up costing $30.
How much would I charge to make a pair like that? $150.

Yes. Yes they are.
It's too bad that they probably don't look like this anymore. My waterproofing technique isn't the best, and when you wear shoes, dirt tends to happen.

I didn't actually waterproof this pair. But nowadays I just use a 3M scotchguard waterproofer that I can here in Japan. It'll make the colors run if you're not careful, but if you apply very light mistings over a period of a few days, water will run off them like a duck.

Not paint: markers. I used prismacolor markers.

Already found a way to waterproof. And it makes them like frickin' ducks. Water just rolls right off them.
Anyway, if you like them, I recently opened up some spots for shoe commissions. You should check it out: [link] Only 2 spots left.

That sounds pretty awesome. The only problem for me is that I don't use fabric paint.
I haven't been able to experiment on shoes for a while because of moving to Japan and because of a lack of money, but some people have given me some good ideas to try so that I can keep making them in marker and then waterproof them.

Commissions are currently closed for my move to Japan. Talk to me in a couple months, once I've settled down.

ninjkabat In reply to Chesters-iffy-artxD [2010-08-07 15:38:39 +0000 UTC]
To commission a piece of art is basically to order it from an artist. It's just traditionally been called commissioning instead of ordering because of the one-on-one feeling it has.
For example, if an artist had a print that you wanted to buy, you'd just 'buy' it. But if you had a very particular art piece that you wanted to pay them to make, you'd be 'commissioning' them. Instead of buying something they've already done, you're buying something they're doing specifically for you.
