Is Ariel's nose really that small? O.o

With the exception of maybe Jasmine, most Disney ladies have small noses like that.  Meh.

I never realized it *that* much. I'm not that much into all the princes movies, to be honest. Ariel is nostalgica, but the other female characters I love never were princesses - Esmeralda, for instance. ^.^ She looks more like a woman and not super-cute if you get the meaning. ^.^

Oh, dude- I refuse to call it "Disney Princesses" because most of them aren't actual royalty, either by birth or marriage!  ...And most of those who are actual royalty don't even act like they are or look like it.

Ariel  youngest of seven sisters and last in line to the throne, so her training in royal responsibilities is probably minimal; thus she has a lot of freetime on her hands.  She may be raised to help her older siblings with upkeep once  assumes the throne, but her training won't be as in-depth.  So she has to occupy herself with other things... like being an otaku forthe forbidden, barbaric creatures known as humans.  She's kindhearted but naive, and considering her royal heritage, her teenage angst gets her- hell, her entire kingdom!- into trouble all because she has a distant crush that she is willing to sacrifice everything in her life just to get back at daddy for trying to keep her head on straight and not end up on someone's dinner platter!  (In the interest of fair play and disclosure, I should note I'm an Arielholic, so this makes me a hypocrite!  )
Aurora  cursed from birth, lives her entire youth as a commoner and thus is unaware of her herritage or responsibilities.  Raised to be a nice person, yes, but has absolutely no role or knowledge of her fate.
Belle  book otaku.  Ambitious but constrained by the society-and-times she lives in.  Gets incredibly lucky to meet an asshat who needs to get out of his own asshattery, and sucumbs to Stockholm Syndrome.  Also: uses her kidnapper and jailer new boyfriend to get rid of another asshat.  (Happy ending?  )
Cinderella  she's a housemaid whose inherritance was completely squandered by a bitchy stepmother.  She... gets incredibly lucky to have a friendly pair of eyes watching over her.  And this makes her a strong character because... she has an inventive imagination?
Jasmine  actually a strong character... perhaps too strong considering all the arrogant ass-hats who wanna get her into their harem.  She... marries a lying thief with a conscientious streak.  Yay?
Mulan  n/a  (Okay, this one's good.  She's not "royalty", but a good female character regardless.)
Pocahontas  maintains her place in society and is viewed positively.  She... erm, helps an intruder because, well, 'it's nice to be nice'.  Yaaaaaay, her.  (Wait, what was that movie about again?  Meh, I don't give a shit.  All anyone cares about is her little animal buddies anyways.)
Rapunzel  she... gets out of the house.  Not an otaku.  YEY.    (see also: Aurora, Jasmine)  (Meh, I haven't seen Tangled, so I don't know what to say here.)
Snow White  (see: Aurora)
Tiana  killing time, finds bestiality.  (Oh, yeah- great role model there, Mr. John Lasseter! )  (see also: Belle, Cinderella, correcting racism by distorting/portraying history differently from how it actually happened)

honorable mentions: Tinker Bell (former "Disney Princess" before she got her own mini direct-to-DVD series/franchise), Elsa and Anna (it's only a matter of time, wait for iiiiiiit...)

Ironically, most of the actually awesome and legitimately-good protagonist character females aren't considered "Disney Princess"-level material strictly because their movies weren't that marketable (i.e. failed to meet expectations at the box office):

Esmeralda
Kida (a princess who upholds her role as an actual princess!)
Megara (marries a demi-god.... and then gets murdered horribly by him when he's temporarily cursed by his jealous birth-mother-in-Olympus.  Now that is real Greek tragedy-level shit right there!)
Miss Bianca  disqualified strictly because not a human (SO WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE, ARIEL, HUH!?)
Nala  disqualified strictly because not a human (SO WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE, ARIEL, HUH!?)

[NOTE:  I have not seen Brave yet, so I cannot judge nor comment on Merida at this time.]

In referring to prominent Disney female protagonists, I prefer to use the term "Disney Ladies".  #inb4

To use your line of thought (as best I can): Rapunzel is basically Aurora, raised by The Beast, except Beast is actually Gaston (also, more asshat/lying thief redeeming). and Merida is pretty much tomboy Ariel with a "women's lib" streak.

On a personal note, I really did enjoy Tangled, and Brave... While it's not Cars 2 by any means, it's not exactly Up, or Toy Story, either.

Uhm, I have seen all Disney movies and haven't asked for an introduction of all characters, but... well... it seems you had time and fun writing? ^.^
