Description I really don't like the new system for submitting art. Yeah, I know it's been used for quite a while now but just recently did I find it extremely annoying. (I don't even understand the categories anymore...)

w00t, another deviation from me. This is another one of my entries for the local art contest in my city. *fingers crossed*

The entries are due next week so yesterday, I sat down and painted for four straight hours. o___o;; I don't think I've ever done that. Though the result could have been better, I congratulated myself on being able to even paint anything after not touching my watercolour supplies for months. Hehe.

Sketch: 1 hour
Inking: 30 mins
Colouring: 4 - 5 hours

Reference used; I was in need of ideas for my second entry and this picture in the Chinese newspaper caught my attention because it was so colourful. xD I modified it slightly because the original was too blurry and detailed. 8D (My mom just told me today that this person's actually a guy. o___o;; He was some famous gay Hong Kong actor before he committed suicide...)

they were all played by guys before O: probably some of them still are.

i think the red on the left side of the face is too defined? it's supposed to fade into the rest of the face, isn't it?

is this for the young at art thing? nobody ever tells me about art contests oTL

It was originally softer and blended into the skin but I showed my mom and she said, "No! One of the features of Chinese Opera is to have sharp make-up" or something?... >>; So yeah...

This weird liquid you put on your paper that dries into a rubbery substance after. That way, it preserves the white of the paper because you can't paint over it.

Wow, from the thumbnail I though "say, that looks just like Leslie Cheung!"

Who was a possibly Hong Kong actor who committed suicide a few years ago. My guess is that it's from the movie Farewell My Concubine. Anyway, great painting! I like the selective development of the detail in certain areas, it makes for a very nice composition.

Hehehe, yeah, my eyes were getting really heavy afterwards. But I guess it was kinda good to get it all done once I'd settled down and got into the mood for drawing. (Plus, I was listening to the Gundam Wing soundtrack, haha. Very uplifting.)

Yeah, watercolour is pretty hard to control. >< You've got no idea how many times I freaked out over this pic because the colour started to leak everywhere. xD I guess the only thing I can say to help is just practise! Get to know what effects you can achieve with it...

AHAHA. Thank God they don't award prizes for 1st place, 2nd place etc. though. xD They just have like...random awards, like the one I got last year: Ottawa Public Library Award. lulz? Well, I'm kinda glad they don't give places because then everyone except three people will feel completely owned.
