I don't use grids, but I do use reference lines. Perhaps one down the centre of his face, and other lines that I find useful, say one from his nose to the corner of his eye. Whatever helps.

Haha, I'm actually not a patient person at all. Probably the only thing I tolerate is art, because it's so much fun. I forget how long it takes me to draw it, I only think of the drawing itself xD
