Description So I received a design and draw commission from Julius G. (He isn't really on dA but I'll post it there)
I had to work with a very vague description but I hope it turned out likeable , I also has a ref. version which I will send to him , though honestly I feel a bit bad knowing that this dragon probably wouldn't be used for anything, the more I worked on it the more I liked it , overall I really like this design and I hope Julius will do too.

Hello!

Let me just start off by saying this is a very awesome looking dragon, the design is quite captivating. I especially love the underbelly and tail design, it is a fierce and majestic beast for sure. There are however a couple areas I would look into for future works, but looking through your gallery you are quite talented! So I am sure you will continue to improve with each piece you create. So with that, let's begin.

Anatomy

Now anatomy is quite subjective when it comes to mythological creatures, which makes it quite difficult to pin point what a true anatomical structure would look like. The length of the dragon seems quite fine, and ultimate proportions also seem fairly steady. However it's legs I feel serve the greatest issue with the overall look. Now legs and feet/paws on any sort of subject is always one of the most difficult to achieve. I would suggest narrowing the forearm of the front legs to extend down into more prominent fingers and claws. Similar stance for the back legs, except with slightly stronger feet positioning. Currently the claws appear to be protruding straight from the tips of the digits rather than coming out from the natural claw/nail line near the top tip and curving outward, or perhaps a design that better defines the claws protruding outward.

Here is an example I have drawn you to show what I mean!

Now again, the claw design as well is rather subjective. As reptiles do tend to have more straight protruding claws from their fingers. However again, this being a dragon you could toy around with other claw designs. But ultimately it comes down to definition, define the base of the claw to put better emphasis on its appearance. Regardless of what style you choose to go with!

The wings appear a bit misshapen, the back wing appears to be much thicker than the front. Positioning wise it looks to be just fine, I would suggest trying to ensure your line work is consistent throughout, matching up fairly well to any meant-to-be symmetrical design. Symmetry exists in any subject to some extent, other than of course abstract works. Always keep that in mind when working on wings, limbs, front facing expressions, etc!

Background

Backgrounds and perspective are also a very difficult task to master. I do like that you have some definition of the front most placement, and distant mountain/volcanic ranges. However they are extremely blurred around the edges, even the moon. I would definitely recommend sharpening those edges a bit, blurriness can work in the distance if done so with its overall structure in mind. For things such as the moon, the blur does indeed add the effect of its beautiful glow; but at the loss of the moons overall shape! For that I would try drawing the moon itself as a defined circle, then adding a softened blur behind or around the edges ensuring to keep its circular shape!

Overall this is a wonderful piece, there is always room for improvement. But with the talent you hold, nothing will ever be impossible! Keep up the wonderful work, continue to practice and take each improvement in stride. Even the smallest improvement to a singular line of a drawing is worth feeling proud over. I hope to see more from you! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="35" height="17" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="576" title="Huggle!"/>

Hello! Thank you for the great review! and sorry for the late reply, dA didn't really shown it in my inbox for some reason till now so I got confused when it suddenly appeared in my inbox with the '2 days ago' date

I see, thank you for the reference/example, I think it helps a lot! I recently tried to improve my dragon leg and wing anatomy with more or less success, and this is a great review with a great example thank you! I'm glad you like my drawing too!

I'm very glad you think you and I'll try my best to improve, thank you for the review, I plan to upload more dragons in the near future! ^^
