A bit of experimenting and playing around starting yielding good results, so I kept with it a bit and came up with something that I'm proud enough of to submit to the community! Where all of my previous work was at least slightly grounded in reality, this one's a bit more "fantasy", a desert world where the sand dunes are scorched by an intense sun, too hot for any kind of life. Hmm.
