I really like how he has a very cute babyface and a buff like a bull body. Very cool concept. (:

Thanks, I have surgery next week to reattach the muscle in my arm, so we'll see how that goes.

The first thing I though when I saw: "Damn Stump drove to fast" XD well done as ever. Those shirts- with or without arm are the best thing ever. My father used to wear em and i had a while ago also some...

Plaid seems like such a simple pattern until you really start to pay attention to it. That design is so intricate and subtly complex, that you don't really appreciate what goes into making it until you attempt to draw it. Anyways, yes, I love those kinds of shirts. Plus it gives Stump a working-class vibe, which is why I think it suits him so well.

I hope you have a fast recovery. Your artwork is still awesome as ever!
Forgive my ignorance but what is with Stump's right ear?

NMRosario In reply to dancepulse17 [2011-09-21 00:08:35 +0000 UTC]
That's cauliflower ear. It's pretty common among wrestlers, MMA fighters and rugby players and is usually a result of the ear suffering some sort of blunt trauma which breaks the cartilage loose, causing it to fill with fluid. Unless it is drained, the fluid hardens and creates a permanent puffiness to the ear that resembles a cauliflower. I've been drawing Stump's right ear cauliflowered since about 2003. I do have a general idea of how it happened, but I haven't worked out the details yet. Considering how he can survive in outer space, enter Earth's atmosphere and fall to the ground with barely a scratch, you can imagine that it would take more than just your average blunt force trauma for Stump's ear to become cauliflowered.
Anyways, thanks!

I'm sure Stump would be doing him mug shot in a sleeveless old plaid shirt and
your small details like the frayed threads make it all work.
Take care of that arm.

Thank you! I was going through some old notes and journal entries and I remembered that I've had the basic plot for the first couple of issues written since 1997. Plus, I laid out several pages for the first issue back in 2004. So I just have to remind myself that I don't necessarily need to reinvent the wheel here and I can build from what I've already established.
My arm getting hurt has been more of a wake-up call than anything else. It's motivated me to just press forward and try to get this thing done.

Thanks!
About the numbers, in the Hebrew language, each letter has a numerical value assigned to it. So if you break the numbers up, you get 100, 7, 8, 600, 4, and 1. Which translate into the letters: kuf, zayin, ches, mem (closed), dalet, and aleph. Keeping in mind that Hebrew reads right to left, not left to right, you end up with the words that are transliterated as "hazaq 'adam" which translates into English simply as "strong man." I actually fudged the numbers a bit, since you're supposed to add them up not place them side by side, but I just wanted to create the feel of random numbers that weren't all that random.

Thanks! You would think that tearing a muscle would be extremely painful, but I haven't had hardly any pain at all. In fact, it took me several minutes to even realize I was injured because I initially didn't feel anything. I'm hoping to have the muscle surgically reattached and, since it happened at work, worker's compensation should take care of all medical expenses. So, hopefully everything will be back to normal soon enough. I can still move my arm, (the bicep is actually two muscles and I only tore one of them) it's just at about 20-30% strength from what I'm accustomed to.
