Description
Thalassodromine tapejarids aren’t the only pterosaurs in Subterramundus, although they are the most diverse and successful of all living pterosaurs. These other pterosaurs are relics of their clades and most of them are restricted to wetlands. Notable examples include phoenicopterus.
Phoenicopterus is a filter feeding descendant of boreopteroids. Due to its filter feeding lifestyle it has converged upon a body plan reminiscent of the extinct pterodaustro. Phoenicopterus are social pterosaurs and live in massive colonies. Females lay up to 10 eggs in mounds of rotting wetland vegetation and sticks. Once the young hatch they are fed crop milk (regurgitated food) until their teeth are long enough to filter feed with.
