Description From the beginning "just a quick work" that kind of snowballed.
The thought "but what if i could makit llike this..." is at the same time both time-consuming and inspirational.
About 15 hours, all hand sewn in vegetable tanned sheep skin.

I really like the way the edge-decorations turned out.

Edit: New, much better pictures.

I really like how you have a slot for the spoon in the center, very practical but integrated with the "feel" of the purse.  I'm working on making my own, and I keep coming back to the same question and that is, when you have the front flap's opening in the location it is in, won't everything fall out when you lift it up to access the back panel?  I keep thinking there has to be buttons or something to hold it shut but there's no record of that (that I've found anyway).  Or maybe it was only for things that wouldn't fall easily, like cloths or something.

You are absolutely correct, every single thing in the outer compartment tends to fall out when you make the bag like this.
The historical purpose of making the aperture on the inside is  to make it harder for thieves to access the stuff in the bag.
All bags I have made after this is made with an aperture on the oputside, with a flap closing it. It is simply so much more practical.

Thanks for the reply and confirming what I thought.

I have to say your stuff is great!  I just started up with my local SCA group and picked up the book Purses In Pieces so I've been eager to try out some girdle bags.  I see that you typically use soft supple sheepskin, would you think a stiffer leather would be out of place for the outer part of the bag and use something like flexible suede on the inside, or would that be weird?

No problem. People are commenting less and less, so you have to take the opportunity of discussion what you love when it pops up.

I think it would most certainly work, but i am unsure of the periodness of it if you are concerned with such.

Is this something like what you had in mind?

Yep, that looks somewhat like I was thinking about.

I've noticed the dearth of comments too, most of the ones I get are questions that are answered right in the picture's blurb, like "what kind of leather is used in this?".  :/

It is a bit small, but the tecnique would probably work in larger applications as well, as
long as you do not use very thin leather while making very large pouchs. Then it risks
getting a strange shape when used.

If you are interested in more girdle purses, ceck this dude out. He is a bit above my level...

I certainly hope so.
It is after all quite small, but I guess I have to use some other bags as well, and use this for the small stuff.

Thank you.

Well, it was both easy to do, and turned out pretty good. It is definitely something I'll keep experimenting with.
