Description My take on America's most famous non-sasquatch cryptid, imagined as a bizarre, black crane-creature.

Some skeptics have suggested that the Mothman was actually a misidentified Sandhill Crane.  If you've ever seen one of these birds, you can imagine how that mistake could happen.  Sandhills are enormous-- almost as tall as a human being-- and have a wingspan of 5-7 feet.  Theie bodies are greyish-brown bodies, except for large red spots on their heads which could be distorted into glowing red "eyes" under bad viewing conditions.

Wouldn't Bubo virginianus make more sense? That'd explain the neck movement range, and the way their necks are obscured by fluff would explain the "headless" look.

An owl is also a highly likely candidate for the Mothman-- and probably it's "sister" West Virginia cryptid, the Flatwoods Monster as well.

However, I have another giant owl cryptid on the way, and I wanted to avoid doing two many creatures that were variations the same animal.  As it is, I'm going to be talking about Bigfoot, the Skunk Ape, the Fouke Island Swamp Monster, the Minnesota Ice Man and the Mogollan Monster which are all basically Sasquatch.

Also, I like the idea of the Mothman as a Sandhill Crane.  Those things are huge and pretty intimidating. Plus they have a bizarre call.
