Winged scavengers baring the features of a bird and a human woman. The literal meaning of the Greek word harp means "that which snatches", which is very fitting, seeing that harpies are often depicted snatching things; objects, food, and even people. Which would most likely end up being food.

There are many different interpretations of what harpies looked like, especially when it comes to how much of their body resembles a human.
