A portrait of an Ukrainian borderguard Vitaliy. He holds a 'motanka' - a traditional Ukrainian amulet doll. Motanka dolls are made with specific intentions and wishes/tasks for them to grant, of various sorts, such as guarding the family or a person.

By the way, I have a small collection of motankas. The first one was bought in 2015 from an old woman in Truskavec. 'Take two, daughter', she said. The second one was presented to borderguards in one of the East detachments.
Several years ago a friend presented me a special motanka which was made exactly for me. Another special motanka I got from brave people from the Donestsk district state administration - it's now on my workplace in our office. Hope to see it soon.
