What exactly is the advantage of an all-lead bullet over an FMJ (or anything with a jacket, to be honest). I know a lead bullet would crumbled to bits when shot as high velocities through long barrels, so that's what the jacket should prevent, but didn't it also provide better penetration to some degree (copper being about twice as hard as lead).

It's just an experimental concept; the whole reason we shoot jacketed lead is because shooting raw lead through modern rifles builds up significant deposits that degrade accuracy if not vigorously cleaned. Since the round is saboted, at least in theory, you could dispense with the jacket. Would you want to? I am not sure, but that's what this concept explores.

I see. It sure would fragment a lot easier than it would with a jacket. Maybe it's something for the LE community, since it makes killing gangsters easier, which don't usualy wear any bulletproof vests.

I like your modeling with 3-D, sorry been a while since I could get on I have been stationed where there is no internet. I think this cartridge is promising. Really fast and it seems like it would be devastating.

You're in the military?
Thanks. I've been working pretty hard on a new cartridge-rifle system that would be a real leap forward in small arms technology. Now, if my father would just retire, I could use his expertise to really flesh out something like this.

Sort of.
Anyways yeah it looks good but rounds like this are a bitch when it comes to feeding. Especially when the weapon is dirty they get stuck to the feeding ramp. Depends really on the weapon firing it. I was going with magazine fed. It's partially the round and partially the weapon. My AK-M can feed fuck anything when its dirty but in a precision rifle like the M-16 and its variations. When I was feeding it with the hollow points I wasn't supposed to have, if the rifle wasn't fresh and clean the bullet would get stuck to the feeding ramp and the bolt would jam it all the way into the cartridge.

Well, I am using a novel feed system for these rounds.

It's certainly more practical than a P90.

Yeah, but you have to admit, those magazines are a pain in the ass.

Oh, its just that they are massive, and the pouches are ridicules and hard to fit on your body.

The magazines are the same size as 9mm STEN or Uzi mags, but they hold 50 instead of 30 rounds.
I've heard they have problems with the rounds falling out, though.

Ha, thats kinda sad, but I can see how they could fall out since you do insert them on top of the rifle.

The feed lips had problems, IIRC.
