Description It's done!
There was some great suggestions for closures on my WIP of this peice, and I really was thinking of frogs. But if I'd done that it would have taken way too long (becuase I'd make them myself) and therefore would make the piece less affordable.
So I went with the brass snaps.

The red is 100% wool, and its fully lined with rayon satin/jacquard.
I had to make the sleeves a little shorter becuase i didn't have much of the wool.
The sleeves can be worn folded up, or left down, and the front can be worn open for a less military look.
I like it better closed myself.

It looks so much better on a person, so hopefully I'll do a real photoshoot with it soon. But no promises

Please let me know what you think, crit is very welcome.

Not so much military as much pirate-y. The blue was a bit more military style. Both are great though, would love to see a photoshoot with both of them.

okay I really like your work-your costumes are pretty much exactly what I would wear for costume choices. I would wear this kind of jacket all the time-but I don't think I'll be able to afford it yet...this is actually the exact style I would choose to have it done-with a few modifications (the red on the inside and outer in black). how much would that cost, no promises here but I am interested.

It really depends on the materials. I could do it for the base price of $120. If you want silk and wool (which is what this one is made from) it wold be closer to $160.
Hope that helps

I've read the journal and I am seriously considering it...hmmm...maybe. I'm not going to make any guarantees but it is a serious possibility. Thanks

I think the inside pattern is too pretty for such a style, if you know what I mean? Or maybe it's just that the pattern showed through too well ^_^;; But it's still a lovely coat<3 I'd so want one, never the less!

did you hand sew or machine the satin?
i find what when i handle things like satin with machinary it always crinkles...

I really like this one! It's a really 'military' red...not cherry bright, but a nice, rich red. ^^

It's so creative, it's both this commanding coat and a lovely little bolero jacket...

And you can!!! That's right folks, you can have your very own cool military jacket just like the one you see before you, just send me your soul and its yours!!!

But seriously, if you want one, just send me a note and i'll give you details. No soul required

This one came out great. I love the epaulets, and the use of the lining fabric for those and the snap bit on front. Way cool.

Can't find anything to critique about it. The only thing I would do different (and this is only because I overbuild everything) is topstitch the collar and overlap edges (and the epaulets so they match the one on front). But that's really unneccessary and it looks awesome.

Great work!

Thanks!
yeah, I used to topstitch everything to death, so i thought i'd try staying away from it for a while.
But yeah, i can see what you mean. maybe i should do at least the epaulets, they need to be a bit flatter anyway.
Thanks for the suggestions ^_^

I think the brass snaps really looks good on this, and I love the fact that you have two different styles with one garment

Looks fab, I think the patterned ining is a really nice touch. You have a talent for drafting patterns, this is sucha beautiful fit. I really like the sharp cut too, it helps give it the military style without being too overt

mmm! very nice I like this one more, prolly because the less militaryness. I like the military look, but if there's to much... it get's to be to much 0.o but don't worry, my oppinion. I do really like the shoulder deals on military jackets and the collars they use to This one is indeed great, and I wouldn't be supprised to see you make more of them

nolwen In reply to Marcusstratus [2007-07-23 00:51:41 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I prolly will make some more soon.
I'm glad you like even thought you don't really like militaryness, that makes me think it's even more successful
