was planing later today to make a human ranger for my 2nd edition ad&d group, when the GM said we would all start as young adults, for me i would be 15, when i saw this picture i knew who i had to be, thank u for it, his name will be Alister Finn

Woah XD Don't you think it looks better like this? I think his pose looks great with the hood, and it adds to the mystery, whereas I think an upright posture would make him look more pretentious :/

I think that holding yourself well is more of a sing of health and a good self-esteem, and would've added grace to the picture.

I just cannot imagine a character that'd spend most of their time roaming the woods (as rangers assumedly do), and crouch.

Well, not permanently, but in this shot it's like he's just looking up after maybe looking at the ground. I suppose in that sense it make it seem less pose-y to me.
