A quick armor/clothing concept from last year's school project. I didn't really work on the design here - I thumbnailed a silhouette and painted over it and just came up with a few ideas for an armor design. So it looks like a bunch of differently-flavoured elements were thrown in

I should work on this one again someday, and produce variants and studies to work towards a consistent final design. Also, I'm building my custom brush set and practicing on rendering different surfaces - I should be able to render this thing properly D:

I'm glad you think so - it's based on stag beetles and similar horned insects

Animal themed anything has it's challenges, but insects just ooze inspiration. Gotta love it

Very cool, I really like how you incorporated different beast elements into this! Have you ever thought about doing a series of these, maybe based on different beasts/animals? Because that would be really cool to see.

Ahah actually, I do! This was from a school project involving alien species - under the armor, some of his proportions are weird for human standards and he has some animal features... so I thought, why not to make the armor look a little beast-like as well? The headpiece is based off some kind of rhinoceros beetle. I was planning to pick this up again, design a consistent final armor and start a series of bug-inspired armors. Bugs are just born with awesome armor and I feel they're generally very underrated.

I'd love to be able to bring out their beauty - perhaps most people wouldn't appreciate insect characters, but what about human (or anthro) characters wearing armor pieces that are inspired to those on the body of bugs? I think it might work After all, I only started to appreciate bugs after stopping to observe and draw their chitin, thorns and stuff c:

Thank you!

Anytime! That's neat that you're using the concept to go against the idea of bugs as underappreciated organisms, reminds me that I actually got all excited earlier today when I saw a grasshopper on my ceiling. 8D Makes me wanna draw them more often, haha.
