An illustration from my concept artbook, Antika - the city in the clouds.
The main characters are part of an ancient order of humanoid vigilantes with biomechanical implants. This particular unlucky Knight is experiencing arm malfunction while fighting a breeding alien queen of the Khaam species. I wanted the Knight (fun fact, it's a she - Antikai Knights are male and female, but somewhat androgynous) to freeze in horror and disbelief, but I feel the overall look is a little too stiff. I'd also tone down the contrast, but apart from these aspects I'm quite satisfied with the piece
Oh well. Goodbye to you, lady knight.

I really love the expressionism in this. I've also felt like I need to study emotional references so my peeps don't look too stiff either. But you did a really good job with the mood and feeling the knight is giving off. ALSO LOVE THE ALIEN IN THE BACK.. MY GOD WHAT TEETH THEY HAVE!

Thank you! You know I love teeth. I'll do my best to stuff teeth into anything with a mouth :U
And happy holidays!

There's some really nice details on the armour and the hair! And they look really nice with each other being such different types of shapes.

Hehe yeah I sorta thought she's looking at the alien firmly and is charging her arm for some sort of attack instead! I guess a mouth-opening expression might have looked more expressive, though it's understandable if a knight would want to hide their expressions from their enemies during fights :3

Thank you!
Yeah, that's the problem - I wanted her to look scared but still somewhat stoical. Hard to pull off without sacrificing something xD I like the challenge of this sort of ambiguous expressions, though. I'll definitely practice more!

LOL I love her expression. It's when you're so cool that you expect everything
to go your way and then this happens to your gauntlet.

I like how there's a lot of motion in the piece. I also noticed that the Khaam queen's mouth is
illuminated from the inside, which I think suggests that it has a light from its core.
What I love about this is that the storytelling is evident. Are you going to post more from
the artbook?

Thank you so much I'm trying to focus more on storytelling, so that means a lot to me!
Next time I'm going to invest more on making the main character more dynamic - she's shocked and everything, but NOT authorized to almost turn her back on the enemy and stare in awe. I started with a thumbnail that got too far and kept the general pose of the character, so I didn't have a lot of room to change things when that monster popped up xD
And sure, I'll be posting more!

Storytelling in pieces; I guess you could call it my new year's
resolution. I think this piece was a swell idea. I find that it's
sort of a teaser thing where the queen's body is not fully revealed
and the main character is just showing potential power but in a
way that it's not going well for her.
Can't wait to see more! Keep it up!
