Description

About 3,5 months ago I decided to draw a cooking scene with my fictional story characters Olian and Lina. I drew a pencil draft, I scanned it and I started working on it on MangaStudio. And after a while, I abandoned it…

Then, , a group I recently joined, announced their #13 Prompt Challenge: “Cuisine” fav.me/d7fc0rg and I decided to give it a shot, and also give a second chance to my cooking drawing. I started it all over again on PaintTool SAI, and here it is! I hope you like it!

(Geez, I still suck at drawing hands… )

Thank you!!
Is he?? I’m not sure; no matter how I tried, I’m not completely satisfied about how he turned out this time…

Nice picture! And LOTS of detail! All the different kinds of food, and the 'water waves' (or whatever they're called) on the wood... Great job! (and seeing all this food makes me hungry) I also like the expression on the fluffy haired one, it's full of admiration, so cute.
I think the hands are relatively ok (and the <-- hand of the black-haired person is simply AWESOME, you can even see the tendons :3)
However, if I may, I want to make two points:
1. All this time when I looked at the black-haired person in other picture, I was always sure it was a lady. Only now I saw the hair on the arms XD I think it's maybe a good idea to make the men a little less feminine... (Unfortunately I cannot tell you how to do it When I draw men myself, they're either like superman's clones or like girly girls. I don't know why it's so hard for me to find the middle -__-)
2. While the colors and the shadows and the details are fine, what really needs correction here is the perspective. The table, the counter, the shelves, the bowl with the eggs, the wooden cutting-board, all have different perspective angles, and it's rather confusing.
Maybe these tutorials might help?

fox-orian.deviantart.com/art/P…
And if they don't, just keep this in mind where drawing: Where is the observer standing? What would be the height of his eyes? (if you drew the candles and the bowl as you do here, *but at that height*, they whould be correct. They are viewed exactly from the side) Everything else should be viewed downwards or upwards, according to its place. Use reference photos and you'll be fine
Anyway, keep trying! You're constantly improving!

Thank you very much for your kind comments and your helpful advice!

Well, this one is not one of my favourite works, not one that makes me proud but one that makes me feel uncertain. I can see that there’re lots of flaws and mistakes, plus I’m not completely satisfied with their facial expressions, even thought I made a quite big number of alterations to reach the above result.

To your points now:

A. Oh, you really though that Olian was a girl?? Oopsie… Well, I guess he looked even more girly in the anime style! I really don’t know what to do to make my guys look less feminine; as far as I remember myself drawing, the only men that looked masculine were those with a mustache or beard! (Ok now, I’m kinda afraid to show you again this drawing of mine fav.me/d78by6i and ask you how many of those do you think are men, ehehe )

B. Yeah, it's true that I have not studied the perspective at all - and I really should… Thank you for your advice and for the links, they look really helpful!

I hope I helped

Don't be hard on yourself. It's good that you can see the faults, but the improvement in your style I see over the last few months is so great, I am awed And you'll become greater yet!

A. Well, I wasn't sure if he was the 'pretty, long haired man' type, or the 'messed hair, opheliac beauty woman' type XD and I went for the latter option because I like female characters that don't stress on their appearence XD But I was wrong!
Hmm my own failed method is basically drawing a larger jaw (and then I overdo it, hense the superman clones XD). But heyyyy I found another tutorial! *__* Here! This should help   jeinu.deviantart.com/art/Uniqu…

Aww, thank you, you’re so kind!

Thanks also for the new tutorial, it looks awesome! I laughed when I saw that guy at the end: he wears make-up and he still looks like a guy, oh c’mon!!
