Description
The world ended.
The Tieten Fold began.
The Tieton Fold is outside of the universe as we understand it, and as such has no planetary bodies. Time is therefore not regulated by the movement of a planet around a sun, but by the daily migration of cosmic dragons. Space comes and goes when worlds are collected into the Fold, so the only thing that can maintain the land and sea are gods of unimaginable size and power. These gods of time and space have become the patron gods of the four classical elements.
WATER
Jormungandr: Son of Loki, keeper of the Ocean
When the gods learned that Loki had spawned children with a giantess they exiled them: Hel was made to go to the land of the dead, where she became queen. Fenrir was chained up and left in the deepest cave. Jormungandr was thrown into the sea. It was here that he grew to a vast size, until eventually he encircled the world, and kept the water from falling into space. When Ragnorok came he released the ocean into the void, and partook in the downfall of the gods. After the world was undone, he came to the Tieton fold and formed a new ocean in his coils, re-assuming his cosmic role in the universe.
Jormungandr favours GREEN dragons, but does not offer them any extra skills in combat.

AIR
Seiryu: Daughter of Ryujin, bearer of the Moon
At Ragnorok, when the oceans drained, Ryujin the Dragon King and his subjects fled the undersea citadel, leaving behind the precious tide jewels: one to bring the tides, and one to repel them. The Azure Dragon, Sieryu, could not take human form like her sisters Tamayori and Toyotama, and so was left to guard the jewels, as she did not want to live amongst the mortals in the last days of the world. When the planet finally shook itself to pieces, she took one of the tide jewels - the one to attract the ocean - and flew away into the stars.
Now she is unable to stay anywhere for long, as she will upset the balance of nature by drawing all water to her. She flies around the Tieton Fold in a pattern that ensures that tides will still come in and out on every island with water, and that it will rarely rain in the desert and often rain in the forest. Her flight is carefully calculated to keep the world moving on, but it means she can never land to guard her favourite lakes and rivers. While most of her duties used to revolve around her being a water-god, she is now an expert at controlling the weather, and has become a wind goddess.
Seiryu favours BLUE and SILVER dragons; she offers them tranquillity in the heat of battle to deal with aggressive adversaries.

FIRE
Xiuhcoatl:Nahual of Xiuhtecuhtli, the living Sun
Xiuhtecuhtli threw himself into a sacrificial fire and became fire itself: a sun god. He ruled the skies for the whole of the fifth age. Then the age of Nahui-Ollin came to an end when the universe uprooted itself and was shaken by earthquakes. The sun-god was unable to be sustained with human sacrifices once the mortals had died, so rather than die he reincarnated himself into a winged serpent made of fire called Xiuhcoatl. Xiuhcoatl moved to the land of fire, Muspell, and awaited the end of Ragnarok, and the dawn of the sixth age.
Xiuhcoatl favours RED and COPPER dragons, and gives them strength and tenacity when fighting other dragons.

EARTH
Nidhoggr: Ormr of Destruction, Guardian of the Underworld
The fabric of the universe was once propped up by a great tree called Yggdrasil. Nidhoggr ate the roots of this tree until it tumbled down; collapsing the sky, shaking the earth, unwinding reality. He tried to escape to the world of darkness, Nidavellir, but his huge bulk shattered the shadows there. As everything crumbled under his weight, Nidhoggr realised that there were few bodies of earth that could hold a dragon of his size, so he left the world to find a home in the Tieton Fold. The Tieton Fold was still new, and it seemed like an endless plain of land. Sadly, the land was thin, like a brittle layer of ice upon a pond, and his weight shattered the world into millions of splintered islands floating in the void.
Nidhoggr favours YELLOW and GOLD dragons, and offers them patience and stability against fast-moving attacks and elegant strategies.
