After the J-226 Striker rose to legendary status for its flexibility and staying power in the skies of the frontier worlds, the established powers of the old solar colonies began to take notice. The J-226CN was commissioned by the Castilian Navy during the fleetwide reforms of the GUNGNIR Program in order to fill the role of an High-Orbit to Low-Atmospheric (HOLA) strike craft, able to punch a hole in air defense grids with trans-atmospheric munitions and follow up with rapid, terrain-hugging precision strikes against hardened targets.

To that end, the standard Striker's W&W 20XX plasma drives were replaced with a pair of Carson Reactors TX-270 hybrid propulsion systems, lowering the 226CN's maneuverability in low-G but significantly improving its entry dynamics and cruising speed in atmosphere. The airframe and armor plating were reinforced across the board, and the avionics suite was upgraded to integrate proprietary Castilian flight, targeting, navigation, and pilot-assist subsystems. Finally, the Striker's signature turret chin mount was removed to make room for a the massive Vekter Dynamics HEX-7 naval defense cannon, a scaled-down version of the HEX-19 rotary coilgun originally designed as a point defense weapon for naval vessels.
