Description This is a sketch of a blurry photograph of a fox that I saw at one point. I wanted to practice realism and the way I draw fur, and I found it quite challenging towards the right side of the fox. However, I think this was a good picture and hopefully a good display of my artistic style.

xD Fun fact: I used the same(?) reference and drew it and was just about to submit it, when I found yours.
It's so much better than mine - guess I need more practise xD

May I ask how long it had taken you to draw this? And did you use an eraser to keep the white places white?

No kidding. That's so awesome. Aw, thanks for the compliment! The picture reference is super blurry, right? I had a little bit of a hard time because of that. Should I find the picture and link it? (is that proper?) Did you end up uploading yours?

It took me about an hour to get a rough outline and left half of the shading. Outline took the longest though out of that day. Then the next two days I probably shaded the rest of it in 45 minute intervals so I think probably about 3 hours roughly? It's crazy because this is an old drawing from before where I tried realism for one of the first times in 2009:

This one took me about 7 hours to complete. So it took me longer to do less quality work. But it was definitely because I was still learning at the time. And it's not even about a huge amount of practice either.Ā

I used a standford #2 pencil with one of those cone erasers. I typically start off the fur very lightly and then darken as I go, I do use the eraser to lighten some areas that were smudged or not as prominent looking. But very lightly; I just tap the eraser a little bit to make sure I don't erase too much.Ā

Yeah, I just had to open your drawing when I saw it xD It's such a funny coincidence. The reference I used wasn't really blurry, but maybe one of the two where edited, because mine is mirrored and bigger xD
Normally I do that, but I don't find the reference at all times... Sometimes a friend sends me pictures via whatsapp like that one now xD
Yeah, it's this. But it's not even near as good as yours ^^Ā° Somehow I ended up drawing the snout to short ^^Ā°

I always start at one point and work my way from there. I guess it took me two hours for the head and the neck until the part where the fur is fluffed upwards. After that I drew 2 more times for about 30-45 minutes on the fur. And yeah, I know that. I'm a really slow artist. Some of my digital arts even took me more than 24 hours^^Ā°

I used my DIN A5 Sketchbook and a simple 2H pencil from faber castell as well as the eraser that came in a set with this one. Like this, but without sharpener www.tkt-shop.de/WebRoot/Sage/Sā€¦ . Yeah, I also carefully tab the paper with the eraser, because I accidentally broke my paper by using the eraser to much in the past ^^Ā°

It's so crazy. The poses look almost identical especially with how we did the fur. Yeah my reference was a lot smaller, that's for sure. But definitely has to be the same one.Ā

I think it looks really good, though! Honestly your variance with fur is so much more advanced than mine was years ago and I don't think the short snout makes too much of a difference because it's definitely recognizable as a fox.

I start at one point too, I usually start with the ears and work my way down the side. I try to limit the smudges from my hand that way but it always gets smudged anyway. Slow is good though. I used to finish my drawings so quickly but then I started to pay attention to detail and slowed down my process.Ā

That is a cool pencil. I really need to look into art pencils xD I just use what's laying around basically. The best erasers are those HB ones, the High Polymer. They end up erasing just about anything.Ā

Ah, I'm sorry, I somehow didn't see your reply >o<
So sorry for answering so late >o<

Yeah I guess your reference was a cut and mirrored piece of the reference I used... XD That's a really fun coincidence xD

As long as it's recognizable as a fox, I'm glad xD I'm drawing for more than 15 years now, but my progress in getting better is so slow ^^Ā°

I always pick a point where I can easily start. my latest artwork for example. I started with the claw of the upper paw, than traced the paw, than the body, than the head and the fur as the last thing. Colouring ruined it a bit, sadly, but that's why I try to do that dayly as a challenge... I need to get better with Copics >o<
About smudges: Something that helps me a lot, is using an tissue to lay under my hand when I draw with pencils. It prevents most of the smudging ā™„
Yeah, but sometimes i envy those artists that draw really breathtaking drawings in a mere hour, when I can't produce something with a similar quality in over 20 hours ^^Ā°

That's a regular school pencil as well. My mother bought me one a few years ago and I kind of liked them and now I mostly use these. They're not expensive or anything. Just regular school supplies xDD
Oh that reminds me of my coloured pencils. My Mother bought me a package with 36 colours from an Discounter (ALDI, or LIDL, I'm not sure which one) and I'm still using them (Yeah, I rarely colour when I draw traditionally ^^Ā°) I guess she paid 3-4ā‚¬ for all these colours. And they're really good to draw with, have a nice saturation and smooth colours.
What I wanted to say: You don't need those expensive Artists tools, as long as you're fine with working with them ^^

I'm seriously honored you think this is good enough to be photoshopped. Like, as an artist for fun I never thought I'd reach a point in my artwork for anyone to say that and mean it (I guess you mean it?)Ā

But no, I have several pictures of my work in progress if you really want proof that I did this myself.
