"Mother! Mother! Nuka is stealing food rations again!"Sorry I haven't uploaded in a while, guys. I've been moving, doing commissions, family stuff etc. As well as working on some traditional oil paintings that I'll post when completed
Okay, so..this may not mean much to those of you who didn't watch the series growing up, but recently I found out a piece of trivia that blew my mind a little. When I was younger, I used to watch a Disney channel show called 'Recess' quite religiously, it's still a great show even after all these years! There's a character in it called 'Randall' who is the antagonist in a lot of episodes. Despite watching this show almost every day, and having watched Simba's Pride many times - somehow my dumb ass never realized that Randall and Young Kovu have the same voice actor! Ryan O'Donohue. And now that I know this, I can never unhear it...and now neither can you!
There was even a singular episode where both voice actors for Kovu made an appearance: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgMeq7… with Jason Marsden voicing Stone (the new 'kid')
So given this relatively new (albeit useless) information, I wanted to draw Kovu being a little snitchy bitch to his older brother, Nuka. Considering Kovu became Zira's puppet pretty quickly, it doesn't feel out of character if you think about it.
P.S. Yes, I'm well aware of the other voice actor factoids about this movie. Young Vitani shares a voice actress with Eliza Thornberry, Simba's singing voice is also TMNT's Leonardo, Zira is voiced by Yubaba from Spirited Away, adult Kovu's voice actor has hundreds of recognizable cartoon roles (including Spirited Away also) etc. I've known about those for a long time, it was just this fact that alluded me for so long somehow.

Yes, I saw that. And the clip that shows who Scar got his scar - which completely retcons the books in which Taka came from (he was scarred by a water buffalo in the books as oppose to a snake), I'm hoping they'll say what his name was so the reign of the six new adventures books can finally end!

It's really cool when you find a that the actor/actress who did a character you love did other characters who are very different from the character you're most used to seeing. And I really do like this idea of Kovu kinda being a jerk growing up. I mean what with him being the 'destined savior' of his pride and obviously getting the bets treatment from hsi mother, it's really not to hard to believe he was a pretty intolerable jerk as he grew up.

Nuka's face is hilarious in this, and I also noticed him holding the mouse the same way Scar did in the first movie- very clever.

Thanks! This was actually one of the few digital paintings where I didn't have to adjust their sequel colors that much, just a tint of yellow glow and shading. Their colors are pretty vibrant in this one scene

Did anyone else wonder why Zira's pride never went off to find another fertile land to settle in instead of staying in that desolate hellhole?

I've thought of that quite a bit and I've come up with a couple theories of why that didn't happen. One is because, if you look at a few shots of the Outlands, you'll notice that there are huge rock walls surrounding it. Unless they're willing to climb or find a way around, the only way to escape the Outlands would be across the river and through the Pridelands. Now if you're going with the Lion Guard universe and making the argument that the Outlands connect to the stone canyons or the volcanic area, then still the only place around that is better is the Pridelands.
Now, I know that the Oasis where Simba grew up in is just across the desert and probably just a day's distance away, however what are the chances that Zira and her pride would actually know about that, or for that matter want to head towards there? I believe part of the reason they never sought a better place is because of Zira's stubbornness and manipulation. Why would they need to go a find a better place to live in when the Pridelands are just right across the way there? What better place to settle down in after allowing their pride to stew in their hatred towards and then kill off the ones responsible for banishing them there?
Of course this theory really puts the blame on Zira for forcing them to stay, however judging by how quickly the Outsiders deserted her after the battle and her children were willing to put everything they had ever known from her aside for peace, this would kinda suggest that the pride was being held back by fear and misplaced anger through Zira. When they finally see that she is willing to sacrifice whatever or whomever for something which doesn't need to be gained by that way, they come to the realization that they no longer need to put up with this.

Hm, good to know, although I was not into the Recess series. However, one of those random birthday presents I got when I was a kid was "Recess: School's Out!" Pretty good, interesting that Ryan plays both bullies. Hell, on the subject, it's definitely one of the best movies for summer.
