Little UPDATE - Here the journal entry where I talk about tech stuff for the SunChild series

SunChild Project - Dev Diary UE4As promised, it's time for a rather big dev diary regarding the tech stuff produced so far for the SunChild series.
The first point is about fur, a real physical fur was always something that I wanted to try on Sonic cast character (and something which was not possible in SFM), I've tried several technic, the "shell" way which is shader based, it was looking good on some character (but not everyone) and this way has an huge drawbavk, the lack of native support for physicaly based animation.
So I've looked to the side of Nvidia and their HarWorks plugin, full succes, it's what I wanted, easy to setup, easy to edit on the fly, physical based animation ready out of the box, perfect.


Ok physical animation for fur, check, but what about physical animation for cloth?

Drop your wind, set its direction, power and so on...

Use the clothing simulatio

As promised, time to show lots of things !

As a reminder, the SunChild project was at first a Sonic SFM series centered on Blaze and Tails, sadly, the Source Engine was far to meet the quality and scale that I want for the project, and so the project is currently on the process to be moved on the Unreal Engine 4.


This preview pic is actualy a map of a small settlement of the Sol Zone, and there you can see typicaly the kind of thing that the UE4 allow and not SFM.

The UE4 map editor is way much easier to use than the Hammer Editor of the Source Engine, basicaly if you have already played to a city builder game (where you can shape the land mass before building your city) then you already have the base to build a map in the UE4.

The UE4 can also use a full dynamic light system which allow the possibility to make a day/night cycle in your scene and to change just by moving a slider the time of your map, as you can see here...

After working on Unreal Engine 4, it had versatility that you could make whatever you desire, meaning that Source Engine can't do something like this.
