They told you to remove it. Simply crediting it is NOT the same thing. Shame on you, I really liked your work but if this is how you handle this kinda situation by flat out ignoring what the photographer asked of you then Im afraid you lost a fan.

Well, perhaps I'm misunderstanding exactly what the photographer is asking, then. I thought that because I am no longer claiming a copyright to this image (fixed da's copyright statement, and certainly not personally claiming one), that it needn't be removed?
Anyway, was not purposefully flat out ignoring.

Well its not really hard to understand, yes you now credit them but the photographer clearly asked to remove it, even if you are no longer claiming copyright it is their image they have the right to tell you to remove it or ask to just credit them. Because you didn't credit the first time (accidentally forgetting or not) they asked you to remove it. If your'e really still unsure,then you should contact the photographer and ask them again, they may or may not change their mind about your use of the image. That should clear things up.

Oh, actually, I did contact the photographer. Way back when all this happened... and they asked me to either change the copyright info, or take it down. I changed the copyright info. (this was after they left the comments you see here)
No one else could know that, since those comments aren't anywhere public, but this issue WAS resolved back when it was posted.

I'm pretty sure the original photographer of the image said to remove the picture tracing their work, not sarcastically credit them and carry on. Sad.

This looks a little like Niko Henrichon's work in the graphic novel, 'Pride of Baghdad,' though I do think you have the edge in terms of detail.

i do understand the feeling of seeing someone sort of sell themselves short, and being frustrated when you know they could do better. I have art students o.o
i guess the thing is.. yep, on this picture i obsessed over following that reference. there were two others i was using as well, but they only ended up with minor influences.
buuuut i certainly don't always do that.. sometimes half a reference, sometimes none... everything in between
so i pretty much freaked out
anyways.. don't let it get you down too much ^^
