2 cents to add to the fight "I have a right to my opinion" is one of the stupidest defence anyone can muster. Technically, yes, you do, and I’m 100% for free speech, but β€œI have a right to my opinion” is a great shield to hide incredibly ignorant, rude and downright judgemental opinions.

β€œTolerance” is not something I tolerate. A stupid, ill-conceived opinion without any basis of experience, reality or rational thought is not a valid opinion and shall not be tolerated.

Everyone and anyone has the right to an opinion, everyone has the right to be an asshole, but no one has the right for their assholity and stupidity to be tolerated.

The answer is simple: if you do not like bondage, move on, look at cocker spaniels (oops, did I just say β€œcock?”) running through daisy fields. If you have not delved into the psyche of BDSM, you have zero right to comment or blurt out your idiotic idealistic ideas here. You are allowed to say β€œSorry, I don’t like it”, but no one is allowed to preach about β€œdegradation” or β€œperversion” unless THEY HAVE BEEN THERE. One cannot write a comment/review on a restaurant you have not eaten at, you cannot write a travel guide to a country you have not been to, and you most certainly cannot make shallow, immature comments about bondage and BDSM if you have not actively played.

Thus: to the β€œpervert” and β€œdegrading” commentators: your argument is β€œmu” (look it up). But if you are too lazy to look it up – here it is another way: your opinion has the right to exist, but that’s ALL the right it has. Your opinion is irrelevant, invalid, immature, and based on a false premise. Go comment on something you know something about.

Or put even simpler: if you don’t like it: move along. Nothing to see here.

No, lets get back to why we are here: a picture comment:

Good lighting (not great, but better than average) – the shadow on the foot is distracting, a softer light source may have worked better, but I just have a fetish for soft light.
Good ropework (again, better than average, but nothing I find exceptional).
Colour handling & post processing: nice and clean, white balance is good, skin tones are well handled (which is difficult for some Canons),
Concept/pose: that I like, its an unusual one, and I agree with the commentator who said that they like the idea that she is allowed to keep her modesty. Too much bondage is concentrated on the sexual aspect, and that is only but one aspect of what BDSM is about – the fact that the panties β€œde-sexualised” this image, adds to its appeal, its bondage for the sake of it, as opposed for the fuck of it, and I like that. The curve of her back is great, I would have liked to see more of her hands (rotate the camera a few degrees counter-clockwise) but that’s just me with my hand-fetish, but overall: 10/10 for the concept and pose.
Her expression is the one thing that is off-putting, its too ambiguous… if I look at it one way, she looks deeply subbed and happy and lost – as one should be (not that the idiot commentators would know anything about this) – but if I look at it again, she looks distressed and can’t wait for the shutter to be clicked so that she can be let out. I don’t know what her mood is, and that is what I’d mark this image down on.
Final thoughts: let me put it this way: as a DD, and as a BONDAGE DD, I’ve seen a hundred pics better than this. But I’ve seen thousands (if not 100s of thousands) of worse pics. I also think this particular deviant has much better work than this photo in her portfolio. Overall it’s a well-deserved DD. Its not the Best DD I’ve ever seen, but by far not the worst.

I think what says a lot to me about this piece, is not that she's tied up. It's that she's still wearing underwear, and allowed her modesty. To me, that speaks levels about this piece. But perhaps it is a part of the BDSM play she is involved in. It's different, and I like it. I have so much respect for those who safely practice such a lifestyle, because of the deep level of trust that is involved. Seeing great imagery like this only intrigues me more about all of it.

The look on her face gave me a different impression than what Kz74 mentions. Seems to me like she's in heavy thought or something, in a different place. Actually I'm not that interested in bondage but the expression is what made the photo for me. I also like the contrast of the model against the grungy, tore down location, and the lighting.

"Hey, I think your opinion is quite idiotic, but, hey, before I get bombed with criticism, it is my personal opinion"

When you expect a criticism, especially around an artistic environment, its really ignorant to give "personal opinion", you should keep your "personal opinions" to your self if you don't have any intelligent to say about the artwork it self, this is no youtube or facebook.

Artwork, especially in a professional level is about the critic points the work is made, technique, idea, the concept, the message, and everything about it.

If you say something so vague like "I don't like it" there is no way the artist or ANYONE could find such comment of help, support, criticism or feedback.

Also, someone should be really immature to find this childish, offensive or even erotic.

Criticism, feedback, comments about the artwork are always welcome to anyone, personal comments, keep those to yourself, no one it's interested on them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

bewilderedconfused In reply to Davirus [2012-10-18 05:59:03 +0000 UTC]

Art affects people in deep and profound ways. I didn't say "I don't like it". I said to me it is degrading and offensive. To say I am immature to find something offensive is to say if my opinion isn't the same as yours, I am immature. To me that is being immature.
Criticism and feedback about the artwork are what I expressed but of course it is my personal opinion at the same time. If you're not interested in my opinion, why did you write such a lengthy response. Your remark "if you don't have any intelligent to say about the work it self(itself) reflects your own intelligence. If I don't have any intelligent what? I don't understand this part of your sentence. If intelligence is a criteria for commenting on this site, there goes 50% of the remarks.
Who is going to be the person on DA who judges whether a remark is intelligent or not intelligent?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Davirus In reply to bewilderedconfused [2012-10-18 06:41:52 +0000 UTC]

Criticism is not about personal opinions, it's about facts. And it's a fact that the artwork itself is not offending, but it's your own opinion it is.

As I said, such opinion keep to yourself.

Q: "Who is going to be the person on DA who judges whether a remark is intelligent or not intelligent?"
A: Common sense.

If a negative criticism come with a well explaining reason, or justification that backup the negative opinion against the artwork, then the artist can use that information to enhance his/her skills or the artwork itself.

Lets remember that most negative responses to DD are from little teenagers than doesn't understand the artwork and let them self to drive by it's superficial nature or the work (nude, erotic, personal issues, very simple detail, etc).

Not because the half of DA users are not able to give a proper answer, doesn't mean the rest have to follow suit.

Keep it as it is: an Artwork, and review it as such.

I'm talking about facts and general knowledge, anything I said doesn't come from any personal opinion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bewilderedconfused In reply to Davirus [2012-10-18 08:37:52 +0000 UTC]

To say that criticism is not about personal opinions is ludicrous! Two people can look at the same photograph and one will love it and one will hate it.If a photo offends someone, it is a fact to that person that it is offensive. You are confusing comments with critiques. Many people offer short comments, good and bad about a photograph without going into the lighting, the focus, the mood, the clearness of the photograph, the background used, the subject used, etc. Your whole sentence about "little teenagers that don't( should be don't not doesn't) understand the artwork"...is an opinion not a fact.I know some very talented and mature teenagers on
DA who know quite a bit about art. Therefore your last sentence about nothing you said came from personal opinion is a lie. Perhaps this bias against teenagers should have been kept to yourself since it is a personal opinion. Twice you have told me to keep my personal opinions to myself so you should do the same. Art is subjective not based on cold, hard facts. It appeals to your senses, your own unique tastes and experiences, your background, everything that makes you who you are. It is certainly your own opinion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Davirus In reply to bewilderedconfused [2012-10-18 15:18:01 +0000 UTC]

I never said "all the teenagers in DA" I have coolab with people with 14 years old, I know when they talented teens here and I my self started at 16 years old in my first commercial work.

But when I said its a fact, it's a fact, just check the most profiles of the people who gave complains and rants about DD.

Stop putting works in my mouth I never said. I know when I'm using facts and personal opinions, and you still using the last one.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bewilderedconfused In reply to Davirus [2012-10-18 22:04:50 +0000 UTC]

I never said "all the teenagers in DA" either. I quoted your own sentence about "little teenagers who don't understand the artwork". You are putting words in my mouth. I am not a teenager and there is no way you can check the profiles of all the people who gave complaints(not complains)and rants about DD. You are still using a personal opinion yourself. A lot of what is expressed on DA is a person's personal opinion.

Shink0u-chan In reply to Davirus [2012-10-18 02:14:02 +0000 UTC]

But you may be wrong right there. Maybe the artist herself may be interested in comments like this. I'm not trying to speak for the artist I'm just trying to say the plausible. Also she did not say "I don't like it" She said "I find this degrading and offensive," which in fact is not vague. If you say her opinion is childish you are no better than her. It may be just her ethics that she finds this degrading or offensive, not maturity at all. Thanks for taking the time to read this .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Davirus In reply to Shink0u-chan [2012-10-18 02:42:06 +0000 UTC]

When you make a criticism about something you have to do it objective and neutral.

That's what makes the difference between professionals or serious artist and just hobbyist, you don't mix emotions with your work (talking about criticism someone or self criticism).

She said "in MY opinion, looks degrading and is offensive to ME", its really different to "I found it IS offensive BECAUSE".

There is no because and she made it clear it is a very personal opinion. Even if for any reason (cultural, ethic, social or psychologic) she found it offensive, that doesn't help in anyway to improve or fix the artwork since she is being very personal, not objective about the reason.
