I first got this game for Christmas when I was a kid, my brother got me a copy for my Genesis. I really liked it back then, it was loads of fun. But it wasn't until I was a lot older that I really picked up on how cool its atmosphere and tone is. It sends up so many old horror b-movies in a way I don't think I've ever seen in any other video games. Obviously, lots of games since then have had ZOMBIES in them, but they're way darker. These are the fun kind of "Braaaaaaaains" zombies, not the horrifically devour your intestines as you die screaming kind of zombies.

I especially like doing fanart of older games, because when your source material is a bunch of little 8-bit or 16-bit sprites, it gives you a lot of room for imagination. But I basically have our two heroes: Zeke and Julie, and they're armed with some of the weapons you see in the game: a squirt gun, soda cans, silverware, a weedwhacker, and then a bazooka which is sort of inconsistent with the other weapons now that I think of it. Admittedly, I made Julie's outfit a little skimpier than it probably was in the game, I think she was wearing something closer to cargo shorts in the game, but plenty of other fanarts and cosplay put her in these kind of running shorts, so I went with it. The fact that it makes her legs and butt look cuter is PURELY a coincidence.

For those who never played the game, the cheerleaders isn't actually a playable character, she's one of the titular neighbors that needs to be rescued from the zombies. so I thought having her cling to one of our heroes as a damsel in distress type would be fitting here, especially with all the flying saucers overhead, which refers to one of the more memorable levels in the game: Mars Needs Cheerleaders.

If you've never played this game, I highly recommend it. You can find a copy for the Super NES or Genesis on ebay for about fifty bucks, or it's on Virtual Console, or I can drop all this stupid pretense and stop pretending you can't just instantly and easily get it for free on the emulation site of your choice, but. . . um. . . "don't do that", etc.
