Description So this really strained the power of my computer. 5400 x 7200 workboard, dozens of layers with different blending effects. HUGE file by the time I finished.

I'm not really sure what made want to do something with Rydia, it was kind of on a whim last week that I had the idea. But I REALLY wanted to do it. I've loved Final Fantasy IV since I was eight years old... hell, that's back when they were still trying to pass it off as Final Fantasy "II". That remains a huge pet peeve to me, when people misname FFIV and VI as II or III. FUCK OFF AND DIE IN A FIRE, SCOTT PILGRIM!!!

But it did hit me despite how much I love the character and the game (I still play through it like every year at least), I have no Final Fantasy IV stuff on my gallery. I do have one I made way back in 2003  for my old angelfire website when I was younger. But I didn't put it on my gallery here when I first joined deviantART, even at the time I had already improved way past that.

This is essentially a redo of that.

I obviously did a few things differently this time, aside from being 15 years more experienced. I gave her a rod as her weapon now instead of her trademark whip. Did any of you ever keep Rydia equipped with a whip? YOU FOOL!!! Maybe you gave her a bow? YOU FOOL!!! Rods are best, they boost her intelligence stat quite a bit, as well as certain armor. With them, you can make her, I believe, the most powerful mage in ANY Final Fantasy game. She is just an adorable incarnate of death itself. Especially because of the way FFIV calculated damage: for every four intelligence, spells get another damage multiplier.... so an extra 20 intelligence can REALLY boost damage. Way more than any of the games that followed.

Come for cute girls, stay for useful RPG tips ^_^ And that's just the 2D version, but as far as I'm concerned, that's the only version worth discussing.

So I gave her a rod this time. The stardust rod, specifically. I was looking for an in-game picture of it, and I found a really cool-looking one that was in FFXIV. So I based the look on that. It gives a pretty good "best rod in the game" vibe, and it looks cool. For her summon glyphs, I based the general shape on what the save points looked like in the Sylvan Cave and Land of Summons (okay, "Feymarch" is a cool name, I'll give a certain OTHER version of FFIV that). The lettering is from Final Fantasy X. The symbol in the middle is Bahamut's. The Yevon script from that game had a really great arcane magic look to it.

Sorceresses normally aren't that sexy with open robe. This is something new to me.
