Yes, Octavia is a real character. She is one of the background musicians, first seen in the last episode of season 1 where Pinkie Pie is trying make the "party" more lively. S1 E26 at around 10:15.

I guess they make so many ponies in a lot of episodes that I can tell the ones I recongize and the ones I don't. Like Vindyl, is that pony real or fanmade! And the artist that draws the ponies can sometimes draw fanmade ponies that i'm not sure of.
