Description Qianosuchus mixtus, first described in 2006, is an unusual reptile that lived during the middle Triassic of China. It is the earliest known archosaur that shows adaptation for marine life. Measuring 2.5 meters, its diet probably consisted of fish living in the shallow seas that covered China at that time.

Great artwork! Couldn't it be that this creature was some sort of advanced proterosuchid? They share some features in overall appearance and other characteristics like the strange bend in the upper jaw.

Maybe... I can't tell.

For some reason I find this creature to be very comical in appearance... I don't know if it's the silly snaggle teeth, or the big wonky tail, but something about the way this thing looks just makes me laugh.

So this is a relative of Thalattosaurus and Nectosaurus?

No, Thalattosaurs are more primitive diapsid reptiles while Qianosuchus is an Archosauromorpha.

So the thalattosaurs aren't in Archosauromorpha proper?

Nope! They are probably more related to the Sauropterygia...

Yeah, I was wondering why this critter did not get as much attention as it should from the paleoartists. It's a cool animal.
