Description
After seeing loads of awesome artwork by oshirockingham and Phobs I was inspired to try even harder to get better at drawing people. So, after a fair bit of trial and error, we've hit this illustration - and I plan to do more ^w^-----

She seems invested in that book of hers. Also I notice she's on a sleeping bag and pillows and not on a bed so i'm guessing this is her new place. I can only make the assumption that the place was obtained cheaply due to the lack of a bed.

Also I like her clothes, especially her green and dark gray sneakers. But I'm curious as to why she's wearing them on her sleeping bag? Maybe she just got there perhaps or the place isn't too clean and she knows it?

Even for American standards. Generally in the states people do take their shoes off when they get home. (Well after they got a snack and have done some other things as well within the first few minutes then, go to their rooms and put their shoes in the closet/on the floor. Unless there is a "No shoe rule.")
Also it is a stereotype that American host generally don't mind you keeping your shoes on. Especially if you stay for a short period of time.

If the scene had more dirt and trash, then the shoes would seem more appropriate - like an old abandoned building or something

Yeah. But in the end you made it and it's yours so if you want to do that change (Shoes away or trash.) or 2nd version to this one, that's your call.
If the building is trashed like that I doubt she'd even want to be on the floor let alone put her drink down there.

Hah! xD She's into different religions and has a mix of religious symbols on the wall. Cool ones like Hinduism, Sikhism, but also.... other ones.... the ram being based on the Icon of Sin from DooM
