Working on Parashi's map and practicing painting landscapes at the same time. This would be near the Guild's base x:One-layer painting in SAI.

I'm still trying to figure out whether that pillar-like thing in the background is some sort of weather system, or if it's something more solid. Adding this to the massive list of things I still can't figure out...
After looking at you're... I suppose painting style pieces is the only way I can think of describing it... Anyways, I've been somewhat curious as to whether you have an upper or lower limit to the number of shades you use to give your backgrounds a sense of depth. I know this is probably fairly basic stuff, and that there's probably better terminology on hand to ask that question, but for the life of me I can't think what ^_^;

I've heard that cool colors and less saturated colors make things appear farther away, so they're good for backgrounds.....but I don't actively follow any rules when I paint so I don't know T-T ......

Ahhh, thanks for the reply. Hmmm, I suppose what I was asking was whether or not it's possible to... over-clutter your backgrounds with too many shades, and if there were any guidelines you followed to avoid that, though you've basically answered my ham-handed question already XD
And curse you and your tight-lippedness (is that even a term?) even though it will probably make my ParaShi reading experience more enjoyable!!!

Oh ok. Come to think of it, I guess I rarely put anything extreme, like really vibrant or super black, in the background, though I don't do anything consciously so I can't say for sure. Lucky Photoshop is for fixes!
